Question about Clearaudio recordplayer parts

I just purchased this clear audio recordplayer. It came from a smokers home so I disassembled it for cleaning. After doing so I was a bit confused by some one of the parts. There is this metal platter that was installed under the acrylic platter. I initially reassembled it without this installed. Without it works perfectly fine. However, after looking at it more the machining looks too professional for it to just be a custom made part. It's exactly the same height as the side pieces for example. Sadly I don't know the model number of the device. Can anyone tell me whether it's original or not?

I think so yes.

What does it connect to at the other end of the wire? The pan looks purely cosmetic to me, makes the table look more substantial.

The problem with Acrylic is that it does not shield against EMI. (Electro magnetic interference).

The metal was added to reduce the hum level.

Same goes for wood amps, preamps and guitars, You need to add shielding for them to work properly.

Source: Sold almost a half a mile of "Mu" metal shielding over the years... Still have a bunch.

Likely is shielding assuming the wire is a drain but other Clearaudio tables of the Innovation family don't appear to have it and motor is off to the side, not under the pan.

Decided to leave the metal platter on even if I think it looks better without. Playing with it now. It sounds great but I think I'll just look for a plc-590 to go with the arm, never was big on the finicky stuff.

That's definitely what it is, I guess the seller used the wrong brand as they did also have the 'scheu' name in the listing. I mainly bought it for the tonearm. The entire player was a bit of an extra TBH. Though the arm is the part that ended up being kinda mediocre in terms of condition.
