Question about wire/cable on tonearm

I just acquired a Rotel RP3000 turntable. At the back of the tonearm there is a wire with a loop in the end around a post on the tonearm and goes through the plinth. I have never seen this before. Is it a ground wire or what is it's purpose? Thanks

Thanks Bob. I see now it is a anti-skate string. I had not seen that set up before, more familiar with Pioneer and Technics tables. This table sure is a looker - I hope it sounds as good as it looks. thanks for your fast response.
