Question to TU-888 Owners

I recently acquired a cosmetically very nice TU-888 but it has the common issue of the FM indicator and stereo indicator lights not working. Upon cleaning and inspection I noticed a a transistor and cap mounted to the underside of the MPX board (F-1283). The service manual does not indicate these components nor does the schematic. I'm not sure if this a factory revision or a repair hack. Can anyone shed light on what I may be dealing with? The unit operates ok but I can't tell much of a difference between FM stereo and mono selections.

I reckon thats factory, its also one of those horrible Sanyo caps which has probably already failed.....

The MPX on these is a discrete circuit, has lots of coils which often drift off, they require aligning more than a chip based MPX circuit.
You probably need to give it a tickle up and work on the separation.

Looks like the topside has two Sanyo caps as well.
I recapped the AU myself but I'm going to have my local vintage expert tackle this one.
Just trying to get any background info for him as apparently these units are very rare.
