Questions about replacing AR TSW 110 two-way crossover capacitors.

Recently, I picked up a pair of AR 110s that were in excellent physical shape.
The speakers sounded pretty decent but both woofers need to be re-foamed.
WilI I notice a difference if the capacitors are replaced? How do I identify the capacitors? Any reliable
online suppliers that can be recommended? Photo was borrowed from ebay.

If that pic is the same as what your crossover looks like, the only capacitor on it is the round blue one.

I highly doubt that you will notice any difference especially since you don't know what they sounded like originally before the refoam and recap.

Hi,

Its just one bipolar capacitor, the value should be printed on it.
If you replace it use a film type, though probably not necessary.

Caps are relatively cheap... and it sure looks easily accessible right now... I'd recap.

Look for the microfarad value - voltage isn't critical as long as replacement is same or higher - 100V is usual. So mfd or Mfd or that micron symbol followed by Fd value will be plainly labeled on the side of the old cap.

While you're in there I would also replace the little 1.5 Ohm resistor with a Mills 1.5Ohm 12W your ears will thank you later.

Not a bad little speaker, had several of the TSW line. Keep in mind the titanium tweeters can sound very harsh with the wrong amplifier. I've had good experience with newer NAD and vintage Sansui with these...Pioneer SX series receivers were a bad mix.

Sometime this week I plan on ordering the caps for the AR 110 speakers.
Have you replaced the 5W resistor with a 12W? What is the difference
between the two?

The 12 watt Mills resistors will absorb more power, and therefore, improve power handling. Just don't overdrive the speakers, though, pushing them too hard. But, more importantly, the Mills brand of resistors is supposed to be a much better sounding part, than stock sand-cast resistors. Cleaner and clearer, that should make audible improvements, above just changing capacitors. I plan on trying them too, on my AR rebuild.

The Mills get rid of a lot of grain in the sound. Do a side by side comparison and you will see. I played a Natale Merchant CD and the difference in the smoothness of the vocals was like WOW!

I ordered from Parts Express the following :
2 - 3.3uF 100V Electrolytic Non-Polarized Crossover Capacitor
2 - Mills 1.5 Ohm 12W Non-Inductive Resistor (PN- 005-1.5 )
