Quick ADS L420 question.

Hi all!

For some reason I'm having trouble turning this up in my clumsy research. I've been looking at two different pairs of ADS L420, approximately the same price. Both simply say ADS L420 on back panel.

Pair A: Cloth grille // 50W Nominal, 75 W Maximum // 6Ω Minimum, 8Ω Nominal

Pair B: Metal grille // 50W Nominal, 100 W Maximum // 6Ω Nominal, 4Ω Nominal

Any idea which is which? Which came first? Which preferred?

Pretty sure the cloth is the earlier. Also, it wouldn't make sense for a manufacturer to decrease maximum wattage in a later version.

Also, some versions had foam surrounds while others had rubber. I prefer the rubber due to less worry about rotting.

All things being equal (cosmetics, sound, etc.), I'd get the newer, metal grill pair.

cleaner tweeter in the cloth version as the sticky dome will have had an air filter in front of it for decades and the metal grille might have some dust and such getting in if the scrim is not covering the complete inside of the grille.

Check for foam surrounds as stated but I don't think one is better than the other.
clean tweeter
rubber surrounds on woofer
wood veneer not vinyl
better input connections might be on the later speaker, possibly with a fuse to protect the tweeter

Get both find a place for the second pair or sell em on when you decide which you want to keep.
