Quick question about Nad 3020 & Bourns trimmers

Hi, Nearing the end of my first recap, a NAD 3020 Series 20 and it is practically only the changing out of the DC offset Trimpots left.

Only have the Bourns 3296 series 20K trimmer at hand and the original ones are much larger.
Was wondering which route is best to go?
1. Is it better to solder an extension lead to the middle lead going to the original middle one.
2. Or is it possible to just solder the middle lead to the next lead that shares a trace(as shown in pic) and leave the top solder pad empty?

Crossing the leg on the pot is typical of these installations if needed. Just bend the lead over and around the middle leg and solder in place.
