Quick question about replacement knobs for AU-9900

How difficult is it to find replacement knobs for an AU-9900? I assume my only option is to wait for a broken AU-9900 to be parted out or sold in its entirety. Is there some other alternative or source I'm unaware of? Thanks for the help.

You never know but my experience in about 2 years, I 've only seen twice knobs offered up for the professional and definition series. One of those two listings I was able to find a knob for a CA 3000.

You'll have to be patient.

Thanks, SansuiFlorida. That's what I was afraid of. I was secretly hoping that there was an AK member who had a stash of NOS knobs, but that was more of an idle dream than anything else. I suppose the next question is this: Has anyone found a reasonable, temporary alternative? Does anyone have a lath and some extra aluminum rod stock? Thanks again.

Yep, and yep.
Which knobs?

If you know a machninist you might be able to supply some aluminum rod and some beer and end up with a duplicate. Of course you would also have to have either a knob to go off of or a drawing........just a thought.

Thanks for the response, Casey. The missing knobs are as follows:
Bass knob and Input Selector knob on one AU-9900. The Tuner Out/In lever (?) on the other.

Thanks for the advice sauuuuuce. Unfortunately, I don't know any machinists at the moment, but maybe I'll try to find one.

I would be willing to entertain the idea of replacing all the knobs with a matching set of knobs that enhance that look of the AU-9900, although I have yet to see such knob sets.

Thanks again.

My 9900 is wrapped up in storage, but I'm looking at a AU 5900.
If it's the all round ones I can easily make you matching ones, but I think the selector knob is relieved along the sides, so you can grab it better. That one would present a challenge to the lightweight milling section of my gear.
But it can be done.
Where are you?

Thanks, Casey. I'm a fair ways down the coast from you in Southern California (Claremont - eastern edge of Los Angeles county). Something that I should have made clear from the beginning is that I do not have an AU-9900 at the moment. I am trying to acquire one (or a 7700 or a 7900) and I need to decide whether or not to go after one that is short a knob or two. And yes, your memory is dead on; the selector knob is relieved on the sides. If I do find myself with a knob deficient amp I will immediately begin offering you bribes in return for your help. Thanks again.

Oops? It seems that an impulsive bid I made a few days ago has come to roost. I am soon to be the owner, hopefully proud, of an AU-9900. The only missing item is the IN/OUT lever knob thing on the bottom right side. I am embarrassed to say I bid without doing the due diligence as far as going rates are concerned so soon I'll be off to the Dollars and Sense forum to find out if I am a fool, a wise man, or simply a fair trader. Originally, I thought I was making a low offer on the amp but now I am unsure. Anyway, I'll be back when the amp arrives asking for help with color matching so I can hide the scratches and what not. I've already contacted CDFixer and he has graciously offered to work on the unit if needed, although the seller promotes it as being in excellent working condition. I am an odd mixture of excited and concerned, but nonetheless I'm looking forward to joining the Sansui club. Is there a secret handshake?
