Quick question from an idiot :D

The back of my Sony tuner and amps says "This equipment is set for operation on AC 220 volts" When I bought these they were working fine but I didn't notice if they were plugged into a 220v outlet. Stupid me plugged them into my 110v outlet and I get no sound, just a small thump when turning on the amp.

Do I need an adapter/converter/transformer to go to 110??
What kind do I need if I do? Recommend where to buy one?

Sorry for the confusion but I'm a newb :pity:

First examine the back or bottom of the unit looking for a 110/220 switch. Move that to 110 and you are good to go.

If it does not have that you need a "step up transformer". It needs to be a 110/220 model that handles enough watts to run your stereo. Look at the back or bottom for a small plate or label that will tell you the voltage, 220 in your case, and either how many watts it draws or amps it needs. You want the number that says maximum or full output. If it is amps, multiply that by the voltage, 220, to get watts. Then get a transformer rated for at least that many watts. Go about 10% higher if you can and it doesn't break your bank.

If there is no switch on the outside look on the inside. There may be a switch or jumper wires that have to be moved. You will need the service manual to determine the settings of jumpers. Most newer Sony gear has specific transformers for the intended line voltage and you have to get an adapter. You have to check the settings and / or get an adapter for any piece in the system that says 220V on the back.

This looks like the jumper switch, it's set to the 117v.

Maybe I didn't hook up the wires from tuner to amp correctly.

That is set correctly. Connect the output of the tuner to the Tuner inputs on the amp. Make sure the Tape Monitor switch is set to "Source." Make sure the speaker selector switch is set for the same set of speakers you have connected; should be "A".
