According to his website, James Inkanish Jr., aka Jimmy Carl Black, passed away this weekend:

"Jimmy passed away peacefully last night Saturday 11/01/08 at 11:00 o'clock pm. Jimmy says hi to everybody and he doesn't want anybody to be sad." (http://www.jimmycarlblack.com)

That he was. He was also a fine drummer, IMO the best drummer The Mothers ever had. He also sang one of my favorite Mothers' tracks, "Lonesome Cowboy Burt" (200 Motels, 1971).

I was just thinking today after Syd, Rick Wright, now JCB, I'm just not ready to see these guys pass on. What wonder works they left behind. The Mothers will always have rotation in my house.
 
Wow, first Yma, now Jimmy... I don't want to know who'll be next.. sad way to end the weekend.

He's my favorite Mothers drummer as well.

I saw the movie 200 Motels, and remember Lonesome Cowboy Burt. RIP
 
Reading the bio, I was surprised to learn that Black hired Frank Zappa for the band, not the other way around.
