John Witherspoon was a hilarious comedic actor, especially for his role as Ice Cube’s grumpy dad in the movie Friday and accompanying sequels Next Friday and Friday After Next. He also was well known for his role as "Pops" on The Wayans Bros. TV series. I especially loved his small role as David Alan Grier's "Pops" in Eddie Murphy's movie Boomerang.

R.I.P. John, Heaven will be a much funnier place with you!

Must have eaten too much hot sauce.

He and Bernie Mac were two under the radar characters in the Friday movies. Still two of the funniest movies ever.

RIP Willie!

Bernie Mac, another supreme comedic talent (Kings of Comedy, The Bernie Mac show, etc...) who died way too young!

Some channel has been running the Friday movies non stop for the past week - I always check in. Pastor Clever rolling up in the Seville looking to score weed for his cataracts - hilarious! Loved Bernie Mac.

Bernie was a legend. Loved the Bernie Mac show. Loved him in Bad Santa - loved him in everything he did. Pretty much modeled my fathering techniques after Mr. Mac. :)

I'll be honest, all I know of John Witherspoon is the Friday movies - he played Willie perfectly. The burrito scene ... jeezuz.

He was great in Boomerang, the scene where he opens his jacket and shows Eddie the lining and goes BAM! is classic.

Eddie Murphy and David Alan Grier's reactions to Pops "coordinating" sense of fashion were almost as hilarious as Pops himself! That entire scene was textbook improvisation.
