R.I.P. Mike Jarve

bobfalk

"Boy wonder"
So this will come as a shock to almost all of you guys, but Mike Jarve (M Jarve) passed away last Friday (10-4-19) at 38 years old from liver and kidney damage from diabetes.

I felt the need to be the one to post this as there was a time when Mike and I were like brothers and spent countless hours building, tinkering, and occasionally even listening to the speakers we designed/modified. Many of you guys got to enjoy our exploits and shenanigans through posts or at local AK gatherings. I know Mike’s input and options were valued by many here, although he became less active in recent years.

I am sorry that I don’t have a lot of specifics to what has happened to Mike in the last few years; we had a falling out of sorts over my families grocery store and we hadn’t spoken at all for years. The circumstances around the falling out and his dads passing years earlier sent him on a downward spiral. I don’t want to publicly say much more about any of that except that Mike and I had a VERY brief conversation a few days before his passing where we made some sort of amends, which I am grateful for and hopefully helped Mike… I know I will regret not attempting to mend that bridge sooner.

I would really like us to commemorate Mike on this thread by sharing our stories and experiences; I feel this is the best memorial possible for our fellow AKer. Apparently several months ago Mike said to his mom and brother that the years building speakers with me and being involved with Audiokarma was the best point of his life… That was hard to hear considering, but upon reflection I have to agree, we had some great times together; I will regret not making/getting a chance to recapture that magic we had.

Mike you will be missed, by us all, my brother

RIP young man, my sincere condolences to the family and friends.

P.S. a note has been passed along in Rich's memorial thread so his profile may be updated.

Wow...I am beyond sad. We used to chat more frequently a few years ago and kind of fell apart. This makes me very sad. Rest easy bud.

Rest in peace, Mike.

I am shocked by this news, but am glad I found out so soon after his passing. Thank you for your post, Bob. I interacted with Mike at multiple AK events and through the AK forums. He was a enthusiastic and generous audiophile. I still have the "STRIPES" speakers Mike and Bob built from scratch over ten years ago. I will play the speakers this weekend in memory of, and to honor Mike.
