That's it in a nutshell. He, Heinlein, and Asimov had a huge impact on me as a boy, all instrumental in fueling my nascent passion for reading, which endures till this day. Brilliant man.

I posted in the literature thread as well. RIP to Ray. He was the one who shaped my love of literature and reading. One thing to note here is he was a master of the short story. It was amazing what character and plot development he could do in a very small number of words. I also enjoyed the wistfulness along with a little melancholy in which he would write stories that were seemingly (and in analysis actually) based on his past. Those little tidbits made his stories seem real to me. Kind of like reading something my Dad wrote, if he was a writer.

On his 'planet sized ego,' I think any person who is a master of their craft has the honor and privilege to have a good sized ego. I find it a positive!:thmbsp:
 
I'm going to revisit some of his books. It's been such a long time since I read any. Thanks for all your great works, Ray.

RIP Ray Bradbury, you were good. Ninety one years of life is a full measure and you certainly left an indelible impression on everyone. Thanks and tell R.A. and Jenny hi from me! :yes:

I could have written your post as applying to me. I still love the coming of age/horror story, like McCammon's Boy's Life and Simmon's Summer of Night. I can trace that back to being memerized by Something Wicked this Way Comes when I was about 10.
