R765 trim not responding

Should i remove or keep it in there even though the reading is un adjustable?

Hello everyone!
As I mentioned in my intro, long time lurker finally official member. Wanted to see if I could get some insight here on something im finding in my 2230 while recapping.

So first off a bit of background:
bought the receiver on ebay, no history, working, but power switch was blown, power cable spliced, and some dirty dials, but not too bad, sounded pretty good yet not even close to my 2240, so i went for a recap as well as fixing the above problems.

When I opened it up, I found a modified power supply with 80v caps, and some new caps, but exactly same as original, so am guessing this unit was repaired at some point long ago.

I replaced all caps on the power supply, the big boys and on the two power amps and am running into one problem. R760 is trimmed and reading the correct volts as is the power supply.

The current Problem:
R765 I have Been trying to trim it to 10mV read from J757 and J759 but get 5.4mV no matter how much I turn the dial, there is some fluctuation but drops to 5.4mV immediately after. After a closer look behind the circuit board i found a diode from R765 to H757 the does not look marantz original.

Can anyone confirm that? Was this a popular mod or maybe the trimmers needed replacement and the repairguy went for a cheap fix? Should i remove or keep it in there even though the reading is un adjustable?

I can't see much in your photo. Can you set the bias on one power amp and not the other? R760 adjustment figures into this also. I once erroneously recommended setting R760 so that J758 was 1/2 the voltage from the power supply.
Setting R765 for 29V at J758 works better.

The photo is very dark but the circle is around what looks like a resistor.
Going by the looks of it, it seems like factory work.
