RAA1 AM Antenna question

Could someone familiar with this device tell me how it works? Is there a coil of wire inside the box like an old radio from the 1930's? Does the DIN connector that plugs into the back of the tuner open some contacts to remove the ferrite rod? Are you supposed to place the black box as high as possible somewhere?

Thanks

No one here uses an RAAA1 AM antenna with their tuners?

I use one but I have no idea how it works. It works pretty amazingly, though, that is for sure. It works fine in places that an FM antenna doesn't either. I was amazed at how well it worked just sitting in my living room.

Without looking it up a service manual, I recall that the concept was to build an antenna coil plus a small RF amplifier inside the box. When connected to the tuner (whichj powered it), and placed in an area optimally both 1) high and 2) as far away as possible from any source of RF interference, AM reception would be optimized. I never had a large number of customers who listened to AM, but the ones who did seemed to appreciate the performance improvement.

Being the engineer that I am, the first thing I will probably do after receiving it would be to open it up. I have not been able to find a manual or hookup instructions on the web.

Would instructions for the antenna hookup be in the manual for one of the intended tuners?
The only thing I could find was the instructions for the TM1 module used in some AV unit. Absolutely no instructions on where to place the box. Just some pictures showing where to plug the RAA1 into the back of the module. I noticed with the TM1 module there is no ferrite antenna like on the back of all FM/AM tuners (ie, MR73/MR74). I wonder if there is a ferrite rod inside the black box? That has much more gain than an old fashioned coil of wire like on a 1930's table radio.

From what I can find, it is a remote amplified AM bcb only ferrite rod antenna unit.
Useful for receivers located in high rf interference settings and/or inside shielded structures.
