Radio Shack Optimus 4 Speakers ...

I agree

Whoever designed Ratshack speakers, or managed the design team, certainly had reasonably high standards. Many of their designs would have been held in higher esteem by the upper echelon if under a more expensive brand name. I'll have a drink to Radio-Shack ! (Its Beer'o'clock here in Australia now)

Radio Shack put out some interesting speakers in it's hey day. I have three T-100 towers that I was going to gut and put "better" drivers in. Anyone, by the way, know of a singleton anywhere? The T-100's have beautiful walnut cabs that are finished with walnut on the back. Quality stuff. Really nice. I just haven't made it a priority to put some better drivers inside, because they just don't sound too too bad the way that they are.

Does anyone remember the model number of the Realistic speakers that have the ribbon tweeter? I would like to, one day, find myself a pair of those.

Beer o'clock in oz! :D I love it!

just bought a pair of realistic optimus-4 speakers at a thrift store for $2 apiece and they sound surprisingly great!!...they are good quality even though radio shack has seemed to have lost that reputation...@ $90 each retail back in 1974, i'd say these things have stood the test of time and are actually worth more than that today...i can't ever remember getting a better deal on speakers that actually impress me!...hey guys, go out and buy these things up if you can, they're truly HIP!

That is most certainly true.

Hey I know this is an old thread but just picked up a pair of optimus 4s with the seat cushions that look almost brand new...talk about good luck..never thought I would see the cushions with them.

Got pics of them ? My mc 1200 sounds good but woofer was sub par and could. Not much bass for a 8” no xmax . I put new woofers in them but do not know how to modify crossovers if there are x overs.
Don’t use em anymore but will someday, your model is superior probably tho.

The Optimus 4 was a speaker ahead of its time in 1972 but the fact these were Radio Shack speakers with a stupid seat cushion sent audiophiles running for the exits. The woofers used in the Optimus 4 were Fosters (Fostex) not sure about the tweeters. Cabinet were well made and have a great MCM vibe.
