RadioShack never actually left? And it's coming BACK!?

I have spent a ton of money at Radio Shack over many years. I knew they never really went away, just 99% downsized. I believe what killed them was making cell phones a priority over electronics. There were at least 3 near me at one time. Zero now. Their sales people were only trained on cell phones. Everything else was moot.

I still buy Radio Shack branded silver solder from Ama*. I also still have some 90s era X10 devices in use, including a CM11 serial computer interface. I'm sure nearly everyone here has or has had a set of Minimus speakers. lol

Some Hobby Town USA locations carry Radio Shack products which seems like a great tie-in.
Unfortunately, the location near me does not.

Per Wikipedia, 2018: "About 80 out of the 110 stores at the time decided to carry RadioShack products."

A member stated earlier that all of the Radio Shacks closed in Michigan. Maybe just near him?
Website says there are 13 locations in Michigan, one of which I visited this past fall per post #8.
 

Well in Costa Rica there are several. In San Jose I bought some capitors and leds transistors and a solderstation when I lived overthere in 2015. And now there are even more stores in CR i see now.​

Our radio shacks basically turned into cell phone stores near the end. It was ironic because right at that time all the 'maker' stuff was taking off.
 
There's one at the TA truckstop in Breezwood, PA. I think the truckers are still keeping it alive. They might have a chance if they partner with local and national STEM programs and focus on hobbyist kits and parts like Raspberry Pi, Arduino, meshtastic, ets... but there isn't much else they could sell that isn't already available at Walmart or Best Buy.
 
As a side note, I like stopping at big truck stops and looking at all of the trucker stuff.

Reminds me a little bit of Radio Shack days.
Bought a nice inverter at one on sale many years ago.

Thats's amusing, because the old truckers are lamenting the state of truck stops these days as they embrace the more generic 'travel center' moniker. They feel that cell phones have ruined the specific community environment that revolved around them.
 
Radio Shack was everywhere and local so you could always get something easy, but I never took it too seriously.
