"Rae Sonics" information wanted

I found a pair of "Rae Sonics" Acoustic Transducer speakers on the curb last night and wondered if anyone out there had any information. They were made in Kansas City, MO. Internet searching provides little, though I found an expired Craigslist post (Google result) that claims their set was loaded with alnico JBL woofers, and another result that claims they have an aluminum cone. They are sealed and rear mounted, and I've not attempted opening them up yet. If you have information, please respond!

Picked up a pair of model 22 rae sonics today. Would love some advice on how to open these without damaging them. Would like to see what drivers were used in these. The cabs are beautiful solid wood and these suckered are heavy for their size. Here's some photos.

That doesn't actually look like a JBL woofer. JBL never used vented dust caps (you can see the vent hole in the aluminum dust cap, through the grill.

Could be any of a number of driver makers- Utah, Rola, CTS, and so on...

Regards,
Gordon.

Thanks for the bit of deduction. Any tips on not damaging a sealed cabinet while opening them? Hahaha

Well I was moving these speakers today and the back ever so slightly slid out just enough to give me a lip to grip and pull the back off.

The tweeter had no serial, but the woofer was stamped. Attached is a picture.

All I can deduce is that the woofers were CTS made.... and I have no idea if that's a good thing or not. How are cts drivers? Considered good build quality?
I think they sound pretty fantastic.

Saw a pair of these on CL and went looking for info. The above question is 3 years old but CTS made all kinds of drivers from OK to great. These look stout enough to do the job, although they may not have super good bass extension with the paper accordion surround. But OTOH they're acoustic suspension which is all about bass extension.

7308 is probably a date code...8th week of '73?

The pair I saw is model 83. Looks like a 3-way with maybe an 8-10" woofer.

Old enough to need a recap. If they are like many inexpensive speakers from small manufacturers at that time, they may not have much for a crossover.

Dang! Where did you see those? I just picked up two more sets of theses model 21s today and have them stacked in my main room for listening. A bigger set would be really cool to se .

Probably the Columbia MO CL. It was back in July so who knows, but 98% of my CL looking is on my local. Sometimes KC, Omaha etc. but usually at home.

Not sure where you are at, but if they were made in KC they are probably geographically located around a KC center. You might do a national search of CL, and/or watch the ones around KC and environs.
