The best part of the deal was, I got them off this guy who really needed the money, on his way into a record shop!




OK, just kidding.

Was out helping a friend of mine who owns an auto shop - rebuilds, engine swaps, general mechanical work. Turns out his neighbor is a handyman, who also trades "random old stuff" that his clients give/sell him.

Managed to get:

The covers are pretty beat up and moldy, but the vinyl looks really clean for the most part, under a layer of grunge.

I own all the above and all I can say is invite some friends over, pour the Martini's and sit back for an evening of sensational music!!! The Byrd and Getz albums have to be my favorite of the lot.

As for martinis and great music, I can't wait. I'm psyched on the score. The discs are cleaning up beautifully for the most part. I went over the covers with clorox cleanup, and got a lot of the mold off, but there's still some water staining and discoloration. My plan is to swab the interiors of the sleeves with a moist paper towel/clorox cleanup combo, and let them continue to dry while I clean the vinyl. Then maybe another swipe of cleanup on the worst mold spots and outer sleeves for everyone.

Dang, that's some good stuff!

Is the Getz/Gilberto mono or stereo? I have a minty RVG-mastered stereo copy, but I've heard good things about the mono version. Getz' tenor sax supposedly sits back in the mix better on the mono, not so far out front.
 
Thanks. The Getz is the stereo version. I love the album so far, so hopefully I come across a mono to test the thesis.
 
Too late. I went over them with clorox cleanup, but there's mold (mildew?) on the outsides and insides of most of the sleeves. After some thinking, and your post, I thought better of having them all over my kitchen. They're currently in a few trash bags.

Any suggestions beyond the usual mold cleaning techniques? Does mildew not matter as much as mold? It's not fuzzy, just black spots on the water-stained corners of the outer sleeves. I was thinking if I'm unable to repair, I might just get plastic outer sleeves, seal the cardboard outers within them, and store them side by side with the records?
