Rank Marantz receivers for small rooms?

While I've enjoyed reading the "ranking Marantz" thread, I'm wondering what the choices are for small rooms--like 10 x 15 or so.

I know you need dynamic range for great sound, but is a 2270 or 2245 too much for these small spaces?? Don't know, so you tell me

If you're like me...I didn't pre-plan my stereo setup for the size of room I have.
My set up is simply a result of .....this is the Marantz unit I happened to stumble onto at a goodwill store for $X.....and then I stumbled onto the sets of speakers that happened to be available.....as such was the Turn Table.
I have a small area.....with a 2265 hooked up to 4 large speakers (stacked advent on bottom...ESS PS6d's on Top)...Sounds great/Looks great.


For those that have the luxury of planning such a thing......
I think the meat and potatoes of this discussion is matching the proper size receiver with the most efficient size speakers for a smaller space.

Very efficient Mission bookshelf speakers. I would think volume of the room is a consideration, damping factors like curtains, bookshelves, fabric-covered furniture, etc.

That said, though, as a rule of thumb, whaddya think? I would think something like the 2270 is overkill because do you really need all that power?? Then again, if I'm listening to dynamic or "large scale" pieces like symphonies, operas, etc. maybe not.

Just confused, is all
 
My wife's office is only 10' x 10'.
She uses the smallest Marantz receiver made.....a 10 wpc Marantz 2010.....to power a pair of early 70's ROR studio monitors (Flushing, NY).
She has NO problem cranking up the volume on occasion.

My only Marantz experience is with the 2215B, I love it, and accordingly, all the vintage Marantz receivers (22xx variety) play bigger than their numbers. I got mine for $80. No issues at all, it was a one-owner unit, and it plays sweetly in one of my 6 rigs. Yeah.
 
Rules of thumbs (plural because there are more than one):

1. Buy the one that sounds the best to you.

2. Don't be concerned about too much power. Your amp will cruise easier and, with an eye to the future, your speakers or room may change. There is not much difference between 30 and 70 watts. It would take 300 watts to sound twice as loud as 30. Fact not opinion.

That being said, I do have a preference for lesser wattage amps. The 2245 seems to be in the sweet spot.
 
My vote goes for the 2245. Relatively cheap but very good sounding. Just the little sister of the 2270.

I prefer the sound of the direct-coupled 2245 compared to the capacitor-coupled 2230.

your link didn't work, but from the caption you quoted that's the one. Gosh--didn't even see the AUX lamp not working. then again, I don't own one so wouldn't know anyway.
