Frazier Mk 11s on eBay (need to be re-coned, but worth it) for local pick-up only.

These were the speakers Jack Frazier made to compete with his friend Paul Klipsch's Klipschorn. Helmholtz Resonator/folded horn design. Don't let the Piezo tweeters scare you.

Really worth watching if you are in the area.

Just wondering how hard it is to find Frazier-correct recone kits? Probably easier to find complete Frazier drivers to reload the cabs with.
 
A friend just told me that the Frazier-folks used to call the Mk11s "The Refrigerators".

Wonder if they came in avocado?

I don't know if they made their own or bought OEM drivers. The woofers look a bit like some older CTS units I've seen...:scratch2:

FYI ( from a former sales manager of Jack Frazier) The Eleven was made with no thought of cost until it was finished. In our sound room, when Frazier was still in business, we had a pair of 11's corner loaded, and we've split wood with them. When a pair of them sold, Jack would send out a personal letter to the end user. That pair, #'s 5 and 6 went to Hauer Music Company in Dayton, OH. We only made 40 of them in two limited production runs. Oh, and BTW, the screws on the rear of the cabinet were securing 2 x 4's so the rear wouldn't vibrate. The 11's were actually two, two way units, with the crossover's being used from the first woofer to the pair of mid-ranges, and the same for the 2nd. ( The pizzo-electric tweeters needed NO crossover, they rejected anything below 4000 hz. the 11's would give you a response of 16-25000 hz, and had an efficiency of 107 db. They were 4 ohm systems, and the shipping wt was 232 lbs. Made from 1979 through 1983.

They retailed for $1500.00 each (1979 prices). I wish I had room for them, they'd be sitting in my house!​
 
It's weird to see Piezo tweeters in "high end" speakers of that era. Same with the Dalquist DQ-10's I believe. Years later, they end up as tweeters in pre-made "kicker" truck boxes and made the amps freak out with the impedance they put on the amps with no x-over. We would go back in and put a cap on them even though they said they didn't "need" a x-over. Kind of cool looking speakers, though.

I'm picking up a pair of the smaller Frazier Mk Vs this weekend. One 12", two 4" mids, and one Piezo. I had hoped to find some Mk Vs with the horn tweet, but I'm pretty excited about getting these. I think Jack Frazier was a little bit of a contrarian... which probably explains one of the reasons he and Paul Klipsch were friends.

The added note on this current 11 auction is instructive, and this former sales manager sent a similar one to another 11 seller last year. I think this gentleman is in his late '80s and living on the SC coast.

If I were anywhere close to OH I'd be in the hunt on these.
 
Anyone know how efficient these spearers are?? How much power do you need to drive them??

Can't believe they weigh 150 pounds a piece.

I would tend to agree with you, but I haven't found a Frazier yet that wasn't exceptionally efficient, and because this thing was part of the Jack vs. Paul friendly pissin' match, who knows.

It is a 4 Ohm'er, so it'll be a manly Watt.
