Rare, hard to find, uncommon Pioneer components

PQX-1011 Pioneer CD-4 test record

Doc, I don't know if you want this for the database or not. Came with a QX-949 I got some time ago.

John

Sure, why not? It is an accessory that came with the unit. As long as it has a model or part number, it is worth putting in the database.

I will add it to the version 5 tables, so you will not see it until I upload the new tables (which could be awhile).

Also, if you have the chance to scan or photograph the cover, or the center label on the album, post it!

Thanks for an unusual and rare item.

The DS-40F is a "Stereo Switch", which allows on-the-fly configuration of a number of amps to be connected to a number of R2Rs and TTs, and have its output directed to 1 of 10 different speaker pairs.

I placed a bid on one of the being auctioned by a guy who's name comes up here from time to time Vlad, if I remember correctly it went for about $400.00

There are two different versions of the DS-40F.

Having both a DS-40F and DS-55F, they are interesting pieces, but of little practical value.

What is that, a money clip? :scratch2: siamac, I'd find a way overseas, & be your butler or something, if I could play with your gear once in awhile. :D Very nice gear you have there. :ntwrthy:

A rare component, the JR-L1. Not sure where it should be placed, but here is the Pioneer Audio Lamp (JR-L1) from a 1977 Japanese catalog:

Another rare component is the PA-1000 tone arm for the PLC-590 turntable (but those fall into the Series 20 group).

Doc

I've just posted a couple of pictures of my PA-1000 arm (mounted on a Thorens TD166BC) along with some questions about it.

While not a component, the most unusual Pioneer 'thing' I have is a C-6000a system I bought the other day. It consists of a pretty nice looking changer (Miracord or P-E like) and a small 10w/ch or so class receiver, but the most interesting part about it is that it is all housed in a hinged glass topped box on a pedestal - vintage early 70s styling. I'll try to post a pic tonight...

Unfortunately, someone before me had bought the speakers already (since the pedestal was priced "for all 3 pcs."). Anybody know what the correct speakers for this system was? I vaguely remember Pioneer speakers that were essentially black metal screen balls (picture an old microphone with the metal windscreen ball) with a metal band around the middle, mounted on chrome pedestals, and I've been wondering - if they really existed and aren't a figment of my imagination - if they were what originally came with this system? I dunno...

Great job with the Pioneer database!

That is a very interesting piece of equipment. I was just looking at it the other day when I was "scrubbing" some of the catalogs.

From a 1970 UK catalog, here is the C-6000:

edit: I love this line from the description:

The center unit cover is made of a special reinforced glass, strong enough to support the weight of a man, and doubles as a handsome side table.

That's pretty much it!

Main differences are that the base pedestal on mine is black, and it has a changer (likely idler drive, given the way it came right up speed after all these years...). Looks like a P-E knock-off, it even has a pitch control!

And yes, that glass top is substantial. No, I'm not sitting on it, though! :nono:

Pics later...in the meantime, thanks for posting exactly 100% more info than I had on it previously!

Cheers,

PBG

While we're at it, I see lots of SA-7700 integrated amps, and usually paired with TX-6700 tuners. It appears to me that the TX-7700, while it was actually produced, is quite rare. I have never seen one come up. I think that one of the reasons, was that the TX-7700 only has 1 meter, while the TX-6700 has 2 meters, to match the VU meters of the SA-7700 better. Maybe that is why most folks bought the TX-6700. :dunno:

By the way, I just did my 1st reveneer and finish of an SA-7700/TX-6700 combo. They originally came with that oh-so-fragile fake wood vinyl that tears and peels, for apparently no reason. I took all that off , and replaced it with real walnut veneer and finished it with Minwax stain and polyurethane (antique walnut). The match is almost perfect to all the other Pioneer walnut cabinettes I have, and it even matches the original look of the vinyl it replaced (I have more of these units to compare to).

Rich,

I also have a SA-7700 that serves me well. Except for the volume increments I really like it. Do you have a pic of your finished product you could post? I would really like to see what it looks like.

Chris

The SA-5200

Going through my catalogs, looking at the various SA-xxxx amplifiers, the SA-5200 seems to be different in design, specifically the front panel.

Does anyone have one, and any information about it?

The photo and specs here are from a 1975 catalog.

This part of this thread is waay old, but I just noticed a piece of it.
In regard to:

blohrd3's

I could use that!

Retro, you say you know someone that has one for sale? Please reply or PM me if you they still might.

Thanks

Meggy

Very difficult to find either the DS-40F or DS-55F. And, if you do find one, there are pieces you need to make sure accompany it:

DS-40F version one:
- Main unit
- Junction Box
- associated speaker indicator light sets and plugs.
* uses speaker plugs
http://audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21315

DS-40F version two:
- Main unit
- Junction Box (different from version one)
- Speaker Display indicator (has two nixie tubes)

I do not know if the DS-55F came in a version one form. I do know that it came in the version two form.
http://audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21316

Check the photos collection for pictures of both. These two photos are not from any brochure. I made them from photos of my own units.

The only documentation that exists is that which I have obtained from Pioneer (in Japanese), and that which I have written.
