11 years ago I built up a music server based on a BeagleBone Black single-board computer, connected via direct I2S to an ES9018 DAC, and accessed music files on a Synology NAS. The server software was Music Player Daemon. This setup is now outdated, but more importantly, it's bulky!
To replace it I recently assembled a Raspberry Pi 5 running Lyrion + squeezelite via the piCorePlayer distribution. And to avoid needing a separate NAS, I included 1TB of NVME storage, neatly mounted underneath the Pi's motherboard, then configured piCorePlaer as a network share.
I documented the various steps in case I ever need to repeat this process in the future.
Now I figure these instructions can act as a HOWTO for others seeking to do the same (or similar). However this document is lengthy, and if I was to post it on Audiokarma the administrators might be disgruntled by me treating the forum as my personal blog ...
so I just created a personal blog, and posted the HOWTO there -
