Rat Shack STA-2100 Info Needed

Hi. I've just put together a Web Page about the Realistic STA-2100 Monster Receiver. I'd love to get some nudies of the STA-2100D for comparison's sake, as well as those of a 2300 and a 2080. Of course, let's not forget the STA-2200 while we're at it. Of course scans of any brochures or owner's manuals would be helpful to. My goal is to put all the info. about the Rat Shack Monster Receivers in one place.

OK, it's time to get this off my chest. Last year I sold a small business and as part of the transaction I cleaned out my building where the office was located. I bought a STA 2100 back when they were new and used it for years. It did actually blow one channel unexpectedly a few years ago and I tried to get parts for it without success. I had it stored in the shop of my office. I did not know about AK at the time. If only I did.... At the time that I was cleaning out the office our community had a recycling day for old computers and electronic equipment. Not knowing what I had, even with a blown channel, you guessed it, out it went with a bunch of old computers, monitors and printers from my bone yard of relics from the past. :tears: Once I found AK and stumbled on some of the threads and comments about the 2100 I started to feel sick. :puke: It was just so big and heavy. It looked like new but who needs a wounded relic like that, right? It had to be put out of it's misery, right? It was beyond repair, right? They shoot horses, don't they? :cry:

Found 'em! (see post #2 of this thread) I have the original owners manual and the service manual. I can have them scanned and make PDF files of them. I should be able to have them sometime next week. I take them to a local commercial copy shop. Once that is done I can email them to AK SUBSCRIBERS or members with 50+ posts (or just become a subscriber!) that wants them. I tried to post scanned copies of similar manuals (Realistic Lab 400) a few weeks ago but the files were too large to post on AK. I also tried to email them to members that requested them via AKs email link but that didn't work for the same reason. I had to have each member send me their email address directly. That worked fine. I suspect that the service manual file will be quite large because the service manual itself is quite large (# of pages and pull-out large pages of schematics and mechanical blow-apart diagrams). If there is a way to handle posting large PDF files on AK for everyone to be able to benefit from both now and in the future, I don't know what I need to do to accomplish it. I don't have my own web site. If anyone can provide a better solution than exchanging emails sending them outside of AK please let me know. Also, if these things are available on the net elsewhere and only a link is necessary, again, please let me know so that I don't duplicate someone else's efforts. Unless I hear otherwise, I will go ahead and have them scanned next week and post a comment when they are ready. At that time we can exchange email addresses unless I learn of a better way to distribute them.
By the way, I also found the original owners manual for a Dual 1019 turntable and a Radio Shack 10-band graphic EQ, model# to follow. I will do the same thing with them, again, for AK Subscribers or members with 50+ posts.

I now have PDF files of the Owners Manual in color and the Service manual in B&W. The files are rather large at 42MB and 27MB. Just let me know what the best way is to get them to you. I also have the owners manual for a Dual 1019 in color PDF.

Heck, if you haven't got a story like that, you're not a real AKer; I passed up an SX-1980 at a yard sale out of sheer ignorance in my pre-AK days. :cry:

After all, where would fishermen be without stories about "the one that got away?"

Yes sir, that's my baby! I bought my STA 2000D new with a 5-band, 2 channel EQ, 8-track and a LAB400 TT for $747USD back in 1978. It was a promotional price. I have the owner's manual for the receiver, but not for the TT. About 10 years ago, I upgraded to the 10 band, 2 channel EQ (black face) but I lost the manual for that a few moves ago. The channel failure seems to be a common flaw with the RS monster receivers, mine went in for repairs twice for the same thing on the same channel, and it's since come back again. (I know a lot of you will shudder when you read this) I find that a good thump on the upper left-hand side toward the front will knock it back in.

I have one comment to make though. The tidbit about Pioneer suing Tandy for the toroidal transformer is not accurate. I don't believe this ever happened. Pioneer OEM'd their transformers from Bando. Other manufacturers did this as well. I would think it was Bando who owned any existing patents over their trannies.

The real reason the toroidal disappeared on the later model was cost. For Tandy it was the easiest way to reduce manufacturing expenses.
