Back about 20 years ago I was working in Seattle for the winter and living in my motor home. I was bored at night and bought a powered glider balsa kit (about a 5' wing span) and had planned to go with a cobalt electric motor for it. I built the wing mostly but didn't get farther. Still have it in storage. This thread has me hankering to pull it out and finish the thing. But my wife may have other plans, like finishing our house!

Our last house we had for 23-24 years. Started a downstairs shower about a year in and it still wasn't finished when we sold it. Remodeled the downstairs family room twice the kitchen 1.5 times and one of the upstairs bathrooms. If we still lived there it probably wouldn't be finished today.

This house has been my occupation for going on 15 years now, and I'm getting close to the end, but now maintenance issues are starting to happen! :whip:
 
That's why we bought new. I did build a 12x12 deck and installed a pergola by myself last year last year. Not bad for a 65 year old.
 
Flew again today. Practiced landing and taking off. Judging correct speed how it descends it was also little windy so some buffeting. Improving already and feeling confident. I'll be dipping into intermediate mode in upcoming flights. Flew for 10 minutes only used 52% battery. Was flying slow most the time and coasting in to land.

Check out Jets over Kentucky. I went there last year and it was very impressive. Lot of cool RC jet planes.

Always found the hobby a 'wish I got into it' as had many friends from youth to biz associates/ engineers had the hobby. I do read up on it and there's some super expensive real jet engine kits out there? man alive! Obviously the overall flying models hobby is the forerunner of today's drones and secret mil.-aircraft.

wonder if there is some world record for fasted model car? i.e. Bonneville.
 
Glad I got the plane even more. There's a big field 4 blocks from the house and on nice days it will be something fun to do and get some air.

I did RC planes from 1986 through 1994. Started with a Great Planes Trainer 20 and 4 channel Futaba AM radio and Enya 20. Crashed about 12 flights in. Bought a better 40 sized trainer The Eagle 63. was able to solo with it. I liked scale planes better than sport airplanes. In 1988 I built from plans a 1/4 scale Monocoupe 90a. Learned of THAT plane from building the Sig rubberband free flight model. Sold it for 1200 bucks in 1995 and left that hobby to do more model Railroad stuff. In 2011 I bought a Blade 4 channel micro helicoptor and 6 channel TX. I LOVED the Blade mSR. fun to fly inside and when I got really good, outside even in a slight breeze. bought its bigger brother the 120SR and put aftermarket swashplates in both.
 
Took it out yesterday. It was a beautiful warm calm day. Got about a half an hour out of two batteries. Ran one down to 7%. That's a little low the other one 27% and ran that for about 15 minutes I was doing a lot of lollygaggin. Set it on Expert long enough to do a loop and an ugly barrel roll and immediately switch back 2 safe mode. I'll build up a little bit by little bit.
 
I think I saw the same type of plane, live, years ago, but with a pulse jet engine. That thing was LOOOOOUD!

I think it "only" flew about 450km/h.

This is the reason for the new radio. Nice to be able fly several planes with the same transmitter. This is the Husky 1800mm PNP. Needs a radio and receiver which I now have. I pre-ordered the Husky. Gave a call to Hobby Zone today left a message and a half hour later got a phone call. It was an interesting talk. The ship with with the planes just left China. It's also carrying two new models. They normally would have some demo units air freighted first to evaluate and advertise but freight planes are in short supply for what are toys. He also said with the shut down and people wanting something to do orders have tripled so his business is thriving. Toys are some of the hottest selling things out there. Nintendo Switches are flying off the shelves and people are buying them and selling at a premium like it's Christmas. I never would have thought this would happen

I've been flying RC since 1980 or maybe 81. I've flown about everything but jets. Besides planes I currently have some FPV racing quads and a few helicopters. Done fast planes, fun fly planes, scale planes, gliders, free flight, control line, aerobats, a little bit of everything at one time or another.

Here's a short vid of the maiden of one of my larger electrics, 87" span/~17lbs. I had used identical components in another plane of similar size/weight so wasn't concerned about take off performance. About 5KW for this burst.

I also picked up a couple of ground floggers.

Here's one. A Redcat Gen II IH Scout. Took a few mods but it's a pretty credible rock crawler now. I also bought a Traxxas TRX 4 unbuilt kit. Got it all put together and just started painting the body. Nice thing about the kit is you buy what motor, servo and electronics you want and there is some very good stuff for short money. It's all around better than the Redcat but I've beat the hell out of the Redcat and after fixing a couple of weak spots in the drive train it's gong to be a reliable performer. This is what covid-19 boredom will do at least to me.

Finished the Traxxas TRX 4 today. Came out pretty good. It will look better with the new old school steel wheels.
