From the EXTREMELY limited amount of info on the net regarding these phono carts I'm not even sure that I've accurately identified this cart. I still feel as though I don't know what to call it. I'm hoping someone is willing and able to extend their knowledge of an esoteric area of phono equipment that, to my surprise, remained reclusive and outside of my knowledge for decades.IMG_20230727_235118.jpgIMG_20230727_235118.jpgIMG_20230727_235133.jpgIMG_20230727_235140.jpgIMG_20230727_235157.jpgIMG_20230727_235209.jpg

It's not esoteric. It's proprietary RCA. And decent when they were new. but any EV ceramic Magnavox used, or the Zenith Micro-Touch outperformed it. In terms of ceramic cartridges.

Hmmm....
Is proprietary tech something you see shared between companies within their particular industry? Is the entire industry privy to proprietary tech and the products developed by it or is proprietary tech developed by a limited amount of individuals with a specialized knowledge or interest? How about when it comes to consumers....? FB driver cones made by pioneer are something that only a very small amount of people know about compared to the entirety of the loudspeaker buying industry and it's safe to say that those who are aware of them have a specialized interest which is the DEFINITION of the word Esoteric.

And this leads me to my last question.. what percentage of audio hobbyists would you think have prior knowledge of these proprietary carts made by RCA? Would it be a number small enough to consider that only those with a specialized interest would be aware of their existence?

It's called the world of portable, compact, and console record playing equipment for the mass market, mediocre quality sold at Radio/TV/Appliance dealers. This cartridge won't appeal to anybody who doesn't own an RCA record changer which uses it. Meaning they bought furniture instead of high performance. If you wanted a high performance console, that's why you had Magnavox Concert Grands, the upper end 1960's Sylvania, The Fishers, the Ampexes. Or you bought custom furniture like Bozak, Barzilay, and similar firms and installed separate components of far superior quality than most Americans owned.
