RCA Dual deck Recorder, Worth upgrading tapes?

I've got a cheap RCA duel deck tape recorder/player. I picked it up about 8 yrs ago new from radio shack for like $100.
CD player in car went out so I've been using te Tape Deck. Just Using the Cheap HF tapes walmart has for 2 for $1.98. Is it worth getting some better. HQ tapes or would it simply be lost with this recorder?

About all it has is Dolby NR.

I mostly record from CDs and some Vinyl.

Figured out the REC levels. Still seems to sound a bit off on some of the "loudness wars" CDs. Almost sound choked now. So may hit up some goodwills and pawns to finder a better recorder and see I I can find some good tapes. As far as Alice Cooper I can get all the albums upto dragontown on tape its. Just the last 2 are only on CD and Vinyl.

So not sure if its the dynamic range of the tapes recorder or elements of the recording levels
