RCA RS-199 tube amp help/assistance

just watch the doubler caps, the negative side of the "upper" cap will be at 1/2 B+. It needs to be insulated from the chassis.
 
B+ is plate voltage. Ancient term, comes from the battery radio days when the plates were supplied from the "B" battery. I'd guesstimate this runs about 280 volts. The negative terminal of the upper cap sits at the mid point in the doubler, so the - side is about 140v to ground and on the + side it will be 280v (or whatever the actual voltage is).

The metal can of the capacitor is usually tied to negative, so if any part of that is exposed it will have that voltage available. Its not up top so not so likely it will get touched but just make sure it can't come in contact with the chassis underneath otherwise things will get interesting. I re-discovered that the hard way when I got across about 350v when I touched the case of a capacitor in my big Bogen amps. It did not feel good.
 
Anybody know how I can power the amp without plugging it into the console? Ultimately I want to put it back in the console but I’m trying boil my problems down the simplest form. I’ve seen several posts where people have a power switch and volume knob on their amp but I’m not sure how to go about that.

The amp only has the 6FQ7 AF amp so it needs another gain stage which is located on the tuner. You won't get much volume out of the amp by itself without the tuner/preamp or extra gain stage.

That’s ok, any volume would be ok. Right now I’m just trying to see if my problem is with the amp or with the tuner, so I was hoping to at least hear if any sound is moving through the amp. Currently the tuner powers on but I have no sound, not even the radio.

While I’m posting, here’s a status update, I have replaced all the capacitors. I’m going to start on replacing the resistors but was hoping that I could at least power it on and see if it works before making it sound better.
 
need to see a schematic. Most likely it would need a couple connections in the umbilical jumped but not sure which. Can't quite trace the wiring in pics with enough confidence to make a guess at it.


or quick and dirty, unplug the audio connection between the amp and tuner and just feed signal directly into the amp to see what you get, if anything. At that point about all the tuner is doing is acting as a power switch.
 
I have the schematic and this is a snippet that has the power socket plug. It looks like I can connect wire 3 and 4 and it should power on when I plug it into the wall outlet, is that correct?
