RCA Vista console

I just acquired an RCA console. it had the guts removed, Someone installed Wharfdale drivers in it. I looked online and the closest think to it I can find is an RCA vista. there is a Sony reel to reel with a separate head amplifier (are Sony RtRs worth working with?) where the tuner used to be. Was the vista a good console? It looks like it used to have a television installed in it.

What model is the Sony R2R? Some Sonys are pretty nice, but I have my doubts that it has a Sony pro level deck in it. They are certainly worth working on.

Btw, I love a good Hammond as well. Do you have one? What model?
 
I will have to look at the unit again when I get back in town. It has a seperate section where the VU meters are and the mechanism is seperate from the chassis where the VU meters are and the levels. It is in two chassis not one. I have a Hammond RT-2 and an M-2
 
That could be pretty decent from the sound of it.

I have an RT-2 as well. I used to have a T-200 and E-300 as well.
 
So all of the RCA parts are removed, and its just the cabinet with Wharfedale drivers and a Sony R2R in it? Interesting. Might could sound good, Wharfedale stuff is generally quite nice.


Tonewheel Hammonds are cool. I'd love to get my hands on one to overhaul, then learn to play it. I have absolutely no idea how to play any keyed instrument, but its a cool enough piece that I'd want to get lessons. The electronics I would also find fun. That tone generator is an electromechanical masterpiece.

You're tellin' me! I love working on TW Hammonds. They have to be in the top ten best designed products of all time. I've brought several Hammonds back from the dead, it's surprisingly easy and quite rewarding. If only audiophile equipment was as resilient.

For what it's worth, I was just like you when I started playing Hammond. I bought one a garage sale. I wanted to play music like The Doors and Yes, so I just started seeing if I could play something (anything) that sounded familiar. It took a while, but now I can get down. Very rewarding, and you're never too old to learn.
