re foaming question

I have a pair of 8 in speakers from my Spectrum108s that need new foam. I have them out, and have cleaned all the old residue and now need to order new foam.
My question is, is all the replacement foam the same? This is my first time doing this and I would like to get a quality replacement. I just don't know if Ebay, or some other store would be the best place to find new foam

As far as the dust cap, when I push down on the speakers I do not hear any scrapping noise. I may not need to cut and shim the voice coil, but if I do, do they usually come with the refoam kit?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like that might be a fairly unusual speaker. Take careful measurements of the diameter of:
1) the outer edge of the frame where the foam sits
2) the inner edge of the frame where the foam sits
3) the outer edge of the cone
4) the inner edge of the old glue line on the cone.
Then try to find the foams that most closely match those dimensions.

I tend to get most of my foams off of Ebay. I personally try to avoid the Chinese sourced foams but have had to use them a couple of times when I couldn't find anything else that would fit.

You might also contacting Rick Cobb (looneytune2001 in ebay). I think you might be able to reach him directly at rcobb@tampabay.rr.com
He seems to be the go to guy for a lot of people looking for foam surrounds on this site

Sounds like you might be able to get away by using the 30Hz tone method for centering the cones. Do your research to see if that would be the best method for you.

Good luck!

I've bought all of my speaker foams from Simply Speakers. Their foams all come supplied with glue. They also have dustcaps if you need them, but I never ordered any. I use the test tone method to center my cones. SS also has many "how to" videos on YouTube.

I would highly recommend this place https://orbanaudio.com/

2 generations of experience. All speakers get shimmed as they should to avoid the coil scraping and shorting out. Sometimes you can't hear it or feel it. His prices are some of the lowest around.
