Re-foaming RS 3001

Hi all fellow infinity fans.

I have a question during my re-foaming process, hope someone are able to provide me a good answer.

Speakers are "Infinity rs 3001". I started cleaning one of the woofers, removed the hard
plastic frame, removed the old foam (glued on top of some very thin paper gasket), while
removing the foam i accidentally removed the paper gasket underneath as well, it was only
a thin layer of paper gasket, but the foam was soooo sticky, like gooey bubblegum\glue and
when i cut of the foam, i noticed that some kind of paper came along as well. Didnt look like
i would have been able to preserve this thin paper gasket even if i tried.

My question now is: Did i mess up big time, is there no hope for this woofer now that i only
have a re-foam kit? Do i need to have the thin layer of paper gasket between chassi and foam
or will it be okay only with re-foaming kit directly glued to chassi (regarding the elements height
without paper-gasket).

Or will i just end up damaging the woofer if i play on it, with the thin paper gasket missing?

Any feedbacks will be very much appreciated, thanks

I’ve re-foamed several Infinity woofers, some IMG variants, and I can’t recall any of them having a layer of paper between the foam surround and the metal frame. I wouldn’t worry too much about altering the height of the foam relative to the frame. If the paper was as thin as you say it should have little to no effect on the operation of the woofer.

Are you 100% sure i wont have any trouble with these by mounting the foam directly to the metal chassi,
skipping the paper gasket?

Nothing is 100% sure. If you are asking me "would I do it personally?" then yes, I would do it and not be too concerned about it.

I`ll just see how i do this, maybe i just remove the paper gasket on the second one too and test, then i see what happens at least,
maybe i learn something from it And if it goes to s..t, i can always redo the re-foaming WITH paper gaskets mounted first Maybe
it`ll be one of those "fail-and-learn" experiences Of course i was hoping for someone who have done this on 3001 could tell me for
sure whats gonna work and not, but lucky for me, this pair of speakers i got for 11$ including some solid stands, so i got nothing to lose
by trying at least I`ll keep you posted on this though And again, thanks for your reply\feedback on this, i apreciate it a lot

I have a vague recollection of my SM-122 woofers looking like the outer edge of the foam was secured to the speaker frame with the plastic frame (i.e., I presumed the foam to be trapped between the outer plastic frame and the speaker metal frame), so maybe this is what you are talking about. In any case, the repair ship I went to for the refoam glued the entire outside foam edge to the metal speaker frame and plastic outer frame, so I think you are o-k in what you are thinking about.
