No affiliation, interest, etc for these.

For sale: Seeburg DDS1 speakers(pair). Each has 2 15" utah, Alnico speakers and 1 Altec Lansing 811b horn w/806 driver. Big and heavy, these were designed for tube jukeboxes running about 25 watts per channel. Very efficient and, if need be, loud. About 95+ DB per watt. Cabinets are championship ugly, with formica covering, as built by Seeburg. Own a piece of history- scare your neighbors when you listen to your home theater. No need for subs with these. Good shape, sound good. Can hear play. Bring a truck and help(170# each).

Having owned 2 pairs of DDS1's over the years(i used to be into jukeboxes) i have to say that in their stock form, they are hands down the biggest disappointment i've ever heard associated with the Altec name.

Once the price exceeds the value of the horns and drivers, you're either buying sentiment or chasing fool's gold.

Just my .02 y'all understand........................

But they're championship ugly.. What more would I need to know?

I think they are championship cool looking.

I've always wanted a rumpus room that looked like the lounge of a bowling alley and those are perfect.

I'm not joking.

It is a simple matter to put an L-pad in these . Mine have two L-pads one to attenuate the horns and another circuit that Zilch gave me that will attenuate the horns without killing the high frequency. You can balance them out to sound excellent. I listened to Santiagos for 20 years and don't see much difference.
But, in stock form without any way to tailor the audio they have nothing to keep the horns from being overwhelming.

Didn't GordonW transmogrify a pair of DDS1 cabs into a killer pair of jazz speakers? I think he brought them to an AK fest.

FWIW the Altec 9844 (or the Heath furniture cab version) is a better speaker in the same price range. Lots of tweaks and upgrades to smooth over their rough edges.
