Real dumb question

Ok, this is probably really dumb, but I don't know the answer, so I ask the good people here:

I am hooking up a system in my room, and I am about to connect the speakers to the receiver. The receiver has for left and right speakers, now my question, is it left and right in relation to the listener or to the unit?

I just want to make sure I do it right... :)

Thanks!

If you are looking at the front of the receiver, right would be to your right.
Left would be to your left.

That really is not that dumb of a question. If you "be the receiver" it is backwards. Never thought of that.

Unless the receiver is used for tv use. I noticed that most movies are configured so that the right channel is on the left when facing the amp. So I switched the wiring. Now some shows sound comes out backwards. :headscrat

BRILLIANT! Your casual `off the cuff' observation has just answered something that's been puzzling me since I started to hook my system together. Thank you :tresbon:

What's even more fun is when jacks are labeled Channel One and Channel Two. I nearly always get it wrong the first time.

I have mine set up in reverse. My left ear doesn't like high frequencies. Which seems to be the placement in a lot of recordings.

Thanks guys! This is strickly audio, no TV, so right would be my right when sitting in front of the receiver... Sounds good! Thanks!

Right would be to your right when sitting in front of THE SPEAKERS. Not every room has the receiver or amp oriented to face the listener. Thought I'd toss that out.

Important to toss out. I was reading the thread it was not clear until your post.
