realistic 15" driver

I need to think before clicking that button.. what I meant is, it's an guitar/instrument driver, so maybe the speakers were intended for PA or something?
 
my brother in law deceased father used these for home stereo used to drive them with fisher tube system,he had to change these drivers back in the 70's
 
I would be satisfied with the use of that 15 incher only because I've used the 40- 1301- 15 in. driver with great results. Of course you will receive all types of opinions. I also believe that those woofers are no longer available. How do they sound to you? I suppose that the tweeter crosses at the right freq but that is an assumption. It would be fun experimenting with those woofers anyway. Have fun anyway and let us know your impressions.
 
A very good speaker, has a better build then my Mach III Korean built 15" woofers. Are the cabs trashed beyond refurbishment that they are currently in? Looks like a nice save from the bone yard. Would a guitar amp speaker be considered fullrange in its design?

these are not the original cabs ,no they are not trashed just weigh about 75 lbs each. I believe he said these were originally utah speakers if you like I could post some blurry pics of the cabs

First, I don't know that I agree that those 15"s are a "guitar speaker". Second, those were decent tweeters IIRC. I also don't think they were piezo so I wonder if (or how well) they survived running full range. I would definitely put a cap in there.

If you give these to "the lads", pull those tweeters and put cheap piezos in.
 
Very nice looking Barzilay cabinets. You could build something really nice in those. Either using your current drivers or upgrade to an econowave project using a good twelve inch woofer.
 
i used to have a pair of 15" realistics that looked like that. i'm not familiar with the model number, but i'm not so sure those are musical instrument speakers. the ones i had had rubber surrounds, rolled, not accordian. musical instrument speakers generally have accordian surrounds. home audio woofers can have either.

i used the ones i had in a pair of hpm 1500's. they were more than capable of thumping out the bass, even if they weren't a perfect match in the pioneer's.
 
i take it back. i do believe those are musical instrument speakers. look at the resonance and the frequency response.
 
M.I. speakers and guitar speakers ain't the same beast . afaik , RS never sold a true
guitar speaker . i had the 12" MI speaker they sold in the late '70s (seamed cone ,
silver dust cap, plastic magnet cover...) but it wasn't voiced for guitar ... too hi-fi .
 
Not to diminish the conversation of the drivers but I really think the poster needs to realize what a treasure those cabinets are. THe real value in my opinion is the cabs.
