Realistic MC-1201 -- Verdict?

Someone on Craigslist is trying to unload a stereo system with some Realistic MC-1201s in tow.

I had a pair from the Nova series that were amazingly good, but you never know with the Realistic stuff. There's some gems, but I've heard some dogs too.

So anyone got some experience with these?

You might check with fellow member Logos if he is still around, he either has or at least had a pair. I came across a post about him hooking them up to a Realistic receiver.

I was given a pair of MC-1000's and they're crap. YMMV, but I would bet that reflects on the rest of the MC series.

Bummer. I was hoping for another R/S sleeper. They look kinda decent in the pic, but I don't want to waste the time and gas to head out to where there at if there's no real hope for them.

Anyway, I attached the photos from the CL post. They look to have wood veneer & the layout kinda reminds me of the KLH Model 6 (with the 8" woofer).

I sent a PM his way. Hope he has some good news.

I guess if you just need a small pair of speakers around and the price is reasonable, they would be fine. Or maybe for a mini "Econowave" speakers. ;) I've just gotten to where I pass on all that stuff anymore....too many other great small speakers around here that I got for next to nothing. But that's just me...

I answered the PM. It's nice that they e-mail us when we get a PM because I haven't been around for a while and would never have gotten it without the e-mail note.

I gave Broken-Ears more detail, but I do like those speakers.

However, I have never claimed to have great ears and advised him of that.

As long as the price is fair, I'd say take a shot. I use them and enjoy them.

Thanks Logos. Got your PM. I haven't been here in some time, but it was the first place I thought of when I saw those speakers. We'll see how getting these pans out.

Hmmm...

Found a nice looking pair of MC-1201’s at a yard sale for $20. They sound fine as well as having an undeniable “retro 70’s” feel to them.

They do have the old style screw terminals. I prefer the more modern snap on terminals.
