Realistic R1000 EDT = Shure M75ED

After doing a little cart archeology in the ol' parts bin I dug up this Radio Shack cart. Some more research revealed that the RS cart is a Shure M75ED. As it has the original RS 8T stylus, which I'm sure is shot, I've been checking on replacements. It seems the most available seem to be the N75EDTT2's from places like Jico and LPgear, and at about $30 seem like the way to go. But there's also the HE stylus for a little north of $50.

This would go on a Pioneer PL-41, Dual 510 or Dual 1019. Any thoughts on which table would best suit it, and if the HE is worth the extra cash?

I have the HE stylus from Shure as well as from JICO on Shure M75 HE Type 2 and several Radio Shack R 47EB (s).
They are great sounding cartridge and stylus combination.:music:
I did not have the ED ( nude elliptical ? ) so I can not give a comparison.:scratch2:

I've got the similar R1000ED version, also a rebadged M75 Shure and have been told around here the M75 JICO SAS takes it to a whole 'nother level. Have hinted to the wife and will see what Santa brings.

Might I assume I can simply purchase a new M75ED stylus for my early 80's Realistic / Shure R1000EDT, or is there a better option for this cart?

I remember this cart being on my father's (now my) Sansui turntable WAY back in the day and it sounded great... of course I was just a kid, but if I can bring the cart back to life for $30.00 or so, why not?

There are various level of stylus available for that classic Shure M75 cartridge.:thmbsp:
From $30.00- $100.00.

The HE stylus is a better option (than the elliptical) – better sound, less record wear, less stylus wear – that’s always been the difference between hyper-elliptical and elliptical. The HE is thinner (front to back) so tracks high frequencies better, but because it has more contact vertically up the sides of the groove wall it actually has more overall contact area, and so wears the record and stylus less.

The Dual 510 probably has a lighter tonearm, so the tonearm will be a better match for the Shure/Realistic cartridge than the other turntables.
