Hi, I'm looking for a set of speakers to match my Realistic Sa-2001. I used them downstairs with a set of B&W DM7's, but wasn't really satisfied with the sound (too boomy). I now combined the B&W's with an old Sanyo DCX-2300 amp and it sounds a lot better, in my opinion. But for my upstairs system I'm still on the lookout for the Realistic, any tips? Preferably something from the same era as the amp (1978-1982).

Give me a break there are far worse units than this 60 (made by Fostex)wpc one. And a 15 watt Sanyo is hardly "obviously better". Nice thread crap on a new member.

If you want to stay with vintage to match your Realistic a nice set of Nova 6's or 7s if you have more room. There are a ton of choices in newer model bookshelf type. What kind do you want and what is your budget? Your amp has plenty of power to drive most anything.
I have a pair of Nova 6s hooked up to my 45wpc STA 95 and it is a great combo. The Nova 6 is a 2 way 8in woofer speaker with walnut veneer cabinet. I love mine.

Looks very nice! I was thinking off something along that line. Radio Shack (in Belgium it was called Tandy) had some great audio gear in the late seventies.

I just picked up a pair of Optimus 2B's to go with my Realistic SA-1000 amp and matching TM-1000 tuner out in my shop. The 1000's are the gold faced models right before the 2001. Ony 20wpc though. The 2001 and matching tuner are a nice looking pair. Also Optimus 1B's would be a nice pair of speakers to find, but a bit more laid back sounding. Nova 6 or 7's would be a great match also. All, depends on your ears.

I once owned the mighty Mach Ones. Would not recommend them. I would recommend one of the larger speakers in the Nova or Optimus line, or one of their T-tower offerings. Very nice amp BTY.
PS: If I had that amp, I would look for the matching TM101 tuner. Makes a beautiful and potent combo.
I must admit, I love that Sanyo DCX-2300 receiver too. And I'm not even a fan of Sanyo gear. That too is a keeper.

Sanyo was very capable of making good gear, and the above receiver is one of them and I would keep it as well. But saying it was obviously better was just silly. Sanyo also ruined Fisher after they bought it and made some of the very crappiest junk ever sold. Early 70s stuff was actually pretty decent but hardly world beating.

you are looking for speakers? Many "realistic" brand models out there that will match up to your output wattage. Minimus' 7s or 77's are a tad rated higher but provide a pretty good quality listening. If not experienced with speaker refoam jobs get them restored.
It is a 2220B. I got those Nova 6s from an ad on CL a few months ago. I had never heard them but I loved my Nova 7s and took a chance that I would like them as well. The pictures of them were kind of blurry but when I saw them I was amazed...... They look like they just came out of the box. The seller could barely speak English so I could not figure out where he got them but I paid $55 and scurried home with them. I usually rotate receivers/speakers but the 6s are hooked up to a Realistic STA 95 and the synergy is so good, I just cant bring myself to change it.

Yes, same surrounds. A few of the Optimus line had twins in the Nova line from what I can tell. The O2s were out a few years before the N6 came out in the late 70s but the O5/N8 were out at the same time like the O1/N7 were. The Nova's always cost a bit more but the specs always looked the same in the catalogs......just the different grills. My Imperial 6s have the same style grill as the Optimus' do and I like both. I am on the lookout for Optimus 5s or Nova 8s. Either grill is fine with me.

If the 6's have 7uf caps in the simple crossover I would think, yes the same. I like both cabinet styles as well. Just different front edges and grills. I really shouldn't buy more speakers since one room is half full of them, but if I found a set of 1B's or the Nova equivalent I would snag them.

I have never opened up the 6s and I doubt I ever will.....they sound just so freaking good. I have heard three sets of Nova 7s (including my set) and I am on the edge of thinking the 6s sound better but I have never heard them using the same receiver. All I know that with the STA 95 driving them they shake the bedroom and are crystal clear in the highs, rather amazing actually.
The only reason my Nova 7s are not still in the living room is that I found the Marantz Imperial 6s for $45. I love the Nova 7s but the synergy is just better with the 2220B. It took a while to get used to the ported speakers after coming from acoustic suspension but I have come to love them.
I use Minimus 7Ws for surround, and the Optimus 1s that I found in a thrift store last weekend for front surround mains. I shook down the O1s to make sure they could take the power that my AVR (Marantz 4002) could feed them and they ate it up. RS made some crap in later years but they sure as hell made some really good speakers as well. The Nova/Optimus line from the 70s along with the famous Minimus 7s. The Min1 and 2s you dont hear about as much but after having the M1s I am now looking for some M2s. I fell in love with the walnut veneer of all of the old RS speakers.
