Realistic SAF-40D Headphone Jack Question

Earlier I tried to plug in my headphones into the headphone jack on my Realistic SAF-40D integrated amp and it didn't really work. It didn't switch over from speakers to the headphones. My headphones have a standard 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter. Does it take a different kind of or older adapter? Is there something wrong with the headphone jack? Thanks!

It's not clear what you mean by "...didn't really work". Did you get some kind of signal, some crackling, or nothing? Have you checked the rear headphone switch to be working correctly?

I made sure the switch in the back was switched over to headphones instead of speakers. Then, when I had the headphones plugged in the music played faintly through the headphones while it was still playing through the speakers.

So it sounds like the switch contacts did not fully disconnect from the speakers and change over to the headphones. I would clean the contacts to remove any residue or oxidation that might cause sticking or arcing across, plus check for full make or break travel of the switch contacts. It might need to be replaced if faulty. Also clean the 1/4 jack contacts. I don't know the circuit for the headphones but expect there are resistors for the headphones; check that they are in spec.
