Realistic STA78 Fuse Wing Fix

Good news! I stumbled upon a Realistic STA78 at the local GoodWill and nabbed it for a steal. About a week later found some Marantz Imperial 6s at the same exact place. Figured this could possibly make a great little system.

Now for the bad...It has loud static out of the left channel. Before looking too far into that I figured I would tear into it and clean pots and replace a number of the caps on the power supply board I found to be blown.

While in the midst of soldering I noticed one of the fuses on the power supply board was loose and sort of rattling around in its holder. Upon trying to tighten the holder around the fuse the wing immediately flaked right off.

Wondering if anyone has a fix for this or any ideas. I'm a bit new to repairing some of these old systems and have yet to encounter something like this.

I attached a photo below. Apologize for all the crap on the board. It was taken before I cleaned and setup the new caps.

Those clips are readily available at almost every online electronics dealers.

The static from one channel is usually (but not always) a small black pre driver transistor on the main amp board in that channel. They're considered noisy and can be hard to sometimes track down unless you can use something like freeze spray to get them to really act up.

I think you nailed it. I went over to mouser and ordered some fuse clips that seem like they will work. Im hunting down transistors now. Going to check how it sounds once I get the last cap I need later this week. Then will start checking and ordering transistors that seem to be problematic. Your quick response and solid advice are greatly appreciated.

I had an STA-78 and the fuse holders were also weak. I was able to clean them and bend them a little tighter. Luckily no breakage. I really like this receiver. It sounds very good and has a sensitive FM receiver. I replaced the backlights with green LED’s. The green goes well with the black front panel. I recapped mine and put a cap in backwards and blew a couple of fusible resistors. You should be pleased when you get it worked out. If you would like any comparison measurements, let me know.
