Really Bad Song Lyrics

...How am I to know that guy is muttering about worshipping Satan or cheating on his wife or shooting people...

:thmbsp: :thmbsp:

Recently, I found myself fascinated by the layered rhythms, vocals and dreamy echoes of a remixed version of a song by Bitter Sweet called Dirty Laundry. Absolutely LOVE the remix version. Heard the un-mixed version on a crime show and

:

I've got a bad boy and that's alright with me
His dirty laundry is nothing that I can't keep clean
And when he needs an alibi
He can use me all night
...
I'm just a bad girl, that's why we get along
Won't make excuses for anything I'm doing wrong
I'll pull the trigger in a flash
Watch out honey, step back
...
Oh baby show me the money my evil friend
Let's go to Mexico, drink margaritas in sin
I'll light a candle for good luck
Now come on baby let's

...
(Oooh) What's the fun in playing it safe?
(Oooh) I think I'd rather misbehave
Our way

Still love the song, though. (Re-mixed version, that is)

When I listen to music, I listen to music. It helps to think of the voice as just another instrument. Sometimes I hear a lyric that adds to my appreciation of a song and sometimes a lyric will detract from it , but to be honest, most times I can't understand what they're saying anyway. I can usually pick up on the chorus, but the verses slide right on past. This is probably why my very religious girlfriend can say "I can't believe you are listening to that terrible song", and I say "this is a great song". How am I to know that guy is muttering about worshipping Satan or cheating on his wife or shooting people. If they enunciated they might lose a lot of popularity and sales. Besides, most of the lyrics are written by the singers and everyone knows that the singer isn't the brightest bulb in the band.

You probably have some idea about the lyrical content going by the bands name or genre of music they play. And, you say you like it.

You don't have to be a devil worshipper or a cop killer if you're diggin on this stuff, like I do. (But, I bet some are.) :music:

People are buying this music because they like the lyrics as well as the music, and they know exactly what they're listening to, even if it might be hard to decipher the lyrics. We're not talkin Barry Manilow here...:smoke:

I will too say I never really paid much attention to lyrics, but euvnetually, the get engrained in the brain with the rest of the music and by that time...well, when i'm listening to it i don't realize how silly it sounds.

Cledus Maggard and the Citizens Band...White Knight....I've heard it...I've GOT it...I don't know why people look at me and assume all I listen to is modern rock (I guess you don't find many 26 year olds who's ipod is 80% of stuff from the 50's - 70's)

On the subject of McArthur's Park...I offer some somewhat purposely silly lyrics that improved that song:
Jurassic Park is frighting in the dark
all the dinosaurs are running wiiiiild...
Someone shut the fence off in the rain
I admit it's kinda errie
but this proves my chaos theory
and I don't think i'll be coming back againnnnnnnnnn
Ohhhh noooooooooooooooooooooo"

Weird Al is one of those ones that his songs are MEANT to be silly/have bad lyrics...and that's EXACTLY why I listen to him.

Cledus had ANOTHER minor hit, "Kentucky Moonrunner", as a follow-up to "White Knight". It was more CB/truck driving fol-der-rol, which was big at the time-1977. "Breaker, breaker, One-Nine, yew got that one ol' Parts Boy on yer back door, come back, breakity-broke. How's them Smokeys lookin' up this one ol' 81 superslab to Roanoke, good buddy ? Yew lookin' clean 'n' green back down to Christiansburg, roger ten-four"....Oh, Dear God, it STILL comes back...(grin)

That's the song I meant. Thanks! :thmbsp:

Re: Da Da Da by Trio -- "Da" is a word in German and the band is from Austria.

The song lyric that always annoyed me was "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. It strikes me as nothing but a bunch of cliches strung together.

Actually, "da" is a word in Russian. It means yes (which is "ja" --pronounced as "ya"-- in German). I think you are right about the band, though.

A lot of Bon Jovi songs have cliches in them. Sometimes I wonder if that is supposed to be "serious" songwriting or just a send-up or maybe the guy simply can't think of anything more original?

That said, his/their songs often have musical "cliches" (borrowed riffs) in them. Usually THOSE I take to be either deliberate nods of respect or a bit of fun, depending on their source.

I stand corrected; Stevie Ray Miller & co. good catch SA

Not to nitpick, but "Stevie Ray" should come before "Vaughan", SRV being a great blues-rock guitarist from Texas; the Steve Miller Band is named after a completely different person, just "Steve Miller". Steve Miller lived a short while in Texas, but most of his career was based out of Chicago. They look nothing like each other, and don't sound like each other, either.

Heh, well, not to drive things too far off topic...when I was younger, I had an obsession with radio (still do actually), and my dad had always had a CB when I was growing up...so I had one..and it was right before cell phones got cheap enough..so people were still using them. I'd get smokey reports on road trips...where all the 'gaters were in the road...and at home there was a bit of local chatter for a while..i'm in manassas and hit skip to some dude in luray va once...quite a haul. Oddly enough, I got family in Wise, VA and getting smokey reports for I-81 brings back a LOT of childhood memories.

Getting back on topic...I haven't heard Kentucky Moonrunner and my copy of White Knight is a vinyl rip i found on some P2P network 9 years ago.

Touching on what I'm sure already has been mentioned...C.W. McCall apparently did another song about a cannibal buffet, which I found on the Dr Demento 30th Anniv. collection, which I believe is worse than Convoy.

Speaking of Dr Demento and Convoy...Sheeler & Sheeler did a parody called Car Phone...replace CB chatter with an uppity exec in late 80's/early 90's LA and the entire tone to that. "Yeah faxt it to my car-fax...555-7672..."

...yeah, I've got quite the collection of tunes.

"Da" is a word in German as well. The song lyric probably translates best as "There, there, there I don't love you you don't love me."

I'd also like to nominate America's "Horse with No Name" as having a particularly inane lyric, with rocks and trees and things.

Wellll... (as I zip up my flameproof suit)...I guess you could add "The Fez" to this list.

While I like Steely Dan, that one has never been one of my favorites. My father likes "The Fez", although he rarely listens to lyrics. I've always gotten a bit annoyed with the line "I learn to work the saxophone" in the song "Deacon Blues" quite a bit. It's just a bit awkward and ugly (okay, I am looking for my flameproof suit as I speak).

Speaking of songs my father likes which he ignores the lyrics, "Miracles" by Jefferson Starship is a contender, especially with the line "I got a taste of the real world, when I went down on you, girrrrl." While I am no prude, that line is just obnoxious, especially considering it involves Marty Balin. I think I'd rather hear those lines coming out of Marty Feldman.

Who can find me the lyrics to "Down in the Wrecking Yard" by the Legendary Stardust Cowboy? He had others, like "I took a Trip in a Gemini Spacecraft" , but Wrecking Yard was the best (worst)!! There's lots of info if you Google LSC, but no lyrics!

da, I know. I have a habit of adding 'Ray' to any Steve. On a Ravens fansite I call the owner Stevie Ray Biscuit; a particular great physicist is 'Stevie Ray Hawking'.
didn't SRV do 'Guitar Town' with the album cover that looked like a gas station wi a guitar on the lift? way cool.

De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you ... (The Police)

(In German:
De do do do, there, there, there, there
Ist alles dass Ich dir sagen will)

Small wonder that so few pop songs are written in der Vaterland.

Methinks America outdid themselves on Ventura Highway with their "... alligator lizards in the air.":screwy:

"Barbie Girl" :) ..It's a take off on "the all american girl"... trashing "A whiter shade of pale"...listen to the song again. i don't think you get it....as for rap...the best rap ever was...hmm...i'm trying...i'm really trying....oh yea...i got it...."who let the dogs out"...my cat really get's a rush from that one.

Without a doubt, "Macarana" takes the cake for me for bad lyrics, or more accurately, no lyrics that I can ascertain.

Hey! Macarena is the 90s version of La Bomba! That didn't make any sense at all, but you all were screaming "Baila baila la bomba!" when it came on the radio/8-track.

Probably already been mentioned, not enough time to read the whole thread, but,,,,

"Drop kick me Jae zus through the goal post of life".

I can't remember (or won't remember), the guy's name, but he should be drop kicked out of the recording industry.
