From what I have read probably the best tuner ever made. This is the tuner the Tuner Information Society rates all other tuners against so I would imagine its pretty good.

Actually, the shootout winner at FMtunerinfo.com is the Accuphase T-109V. The final top ten below.

It's a genuine reference grade tuner, and probably worth that sort of coin to those who can afford it and are looking for the best.

It seems almost heresy, but Kenwood really did produce some of the finest audio components ever made. Much of their L-0x series received some trickle down technology from their commercial RF gear.
 
I've got one, and I can confidently say it SMOKES any other tuner I've heard. With a good FM station (hard to find in many areas these days) it elevates radio to a seriously good sounding source for music...
 
Kenwood has a reputation for great tuners. This comes from the fact that the Trio Corporation was at the time the largest manufacturer of radio equipment in the world. Can't make good ham radio gear not know about radio frequencies and then modifying that to pick up the tiny chunk of the dial between 87.5 and 108 MHz is kinda childsplay for such qualified engineers.

It's an FM tuner for $4000? Seriously? That has to be even pondered on for FM? Sheesh. If you love FM that bad, I have some great farm land down on the coast of New Orleans that I need to unload.

Well, from the Tuner Information Center, it looks like this tuner sold for $1,800 when new in 1982, so you can be sure there weren't many made. To quote TIC:
Only five L-02Ts have been seen on eBay-U.S. since the end of 2001, with two of them selling for $2,551 and $3,000 (both in 2/06); and two from sellers in Hong Kong going for $3,206 in 3/06 and $1,732 in 10/06. We're also aware of one that sold privately for $2,250 in 2003, but the seller was kicking himself because he got an offer of $3,000 later.

The price for this one is on the high end, but given this tuner's rarity and ascension to cult status, it's not out of the question for someone who REALLY wants one of these. However, if (an that's a BIG if) I were interested in this tuner, a zero feedback = automatic walk unless I can physically go and see it.
 
This guy has sold several very high end tuners on Ebay in the past. Very high end Kenwoods seem to be his forte. Word to the wise though- one day I was over at Terry Dewick's shop and he had a very high end tuner there (believe it or not I cannot remember the actual model) it had been damaged. I asked Terry what was the deal and he told me that one of his clients bought the tuner from this "Masterviewer" guy out of Germany and the seller did a TERRIBLE job of packing it. Consequently, it arrived trashed and Terry was trying to salvage it. We're talking a a tuner that cost him over 2 grand and this "Masterviewer" guy packed it like it was worthless! If I remember correctly, Terry's client lost out BIG time on this. I'd personally steer clear from this guy. Besides, his pricing is always outrageous.

If you have that kind of dinero to spend on a tuner I would HIGHLY recommend looking at FMtunerinfo.coms #1 tuner in that ranking above and buy the Accuphase T-109V. You will probably be able to pay less for it and they are not that rare. They pop up on Audiogon from time to time.

Yep. I have no regrets over my Accuphase T-109V purchase about 5 years ago. I'm not so sure that you may pay less though.....these are in high demand and are not plentiful either.

Making #1 on the FMtunerinfo.com list didn't hurt its value for sure. There is a T-109 (without the V) on Audiogon right now for $1550.00. Aren't they almost identical?

I feel the same. Unless it is a NEW item in original factory packing I won't buy it on Ebay.

Any used electronics, if It isn't close enough or worthwhile for a longer road trip, I pass.
