Really?? What do you make of this? 2275

Picked up a 2275 this week. Initially, no lights worked on it. I could tell someone had been inside before because none of the side cover screws were factory. None of the boards looked they had been touched. I thought it was unusual that all light were out. So I started testing some of the voltages for indicator and dial face lights. Not getting any voltage on the “stereo” indicator pins. This is also where the radio dial light wire was soldered to?? Then some of the indicator lights started working. I thought I would look behind radio dial. Really?? They were all soldered into place. I have seen smaller lights at a marijuana grow house.

Way back when the Internet was new and before, getting parts was difficult or impossible.

Folks used what they could find.

Even today, people can’t “Google” to find things.

All good points. That set up just looked a bit extreme to me. I guess I know now where the burn mark on the dial needle came from.

I masked off and painted the plastic reflector on my 2275. It worked out great using cooler LED bulbs. Here are a few pics.

Oh my, my, my!! I've undone direct solder jobs a couple of times but not with bulbs that big! Also strings of surface mount LEDs - that took some soldering skills.

Yeah. Those bulbs are huge. I am preparing my desoldering wick now. By the marks on the vellum paper, they all worked at some point.

I went through a Marantz amp, maybe a Model 140, that had the exact same thing done to the lights. Guy had no idea. Wasn't too hard to desolder and clean up the sockets.
