Rebuilt Advent Heritage

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I have a simple request: I've got two cabinets custom made for heritage speakers but no speakers. Any suggestions of speakers/ twitters and crossover that I can use? I've casually looked around but can't seem to find this combination of two 8" speakers anywhere. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

I am refurbing a pair of Heritage and can tell you that if you can piece together the components you'll be very happy. As far as the tweeters, it looks like SimplySpeakers has NOS Advent dome tweeters in several sizes - one may fit into the stock openings. Otherwise - if you still have the face plates from the stock tweeters you might be able to find the ferrofluid dome components to mount up to the face plate - there are (4) screws in it. If you need some photos let me know.
 
I'm looking for one of the solid pecan tops for the cabinet if you have a line on those. I have one that is split where the boards are laminated (front to back).
 
Splitting of the wood where glued together seems pretty common from the ones that I've seen. If I remember correctly they are solid wood. I would suggest that you take some clamps and glue it back together. Depending upon how good you are able to keep things lined up and flat will determine how much sanding will be required. If I'm correct and they are solid wood and there's no need to worry about sanding through veneer. If you proceed with the repair I also recommend that you sand both tops completely down to bare wood and choose your desired finish to complete. Good luck with your project.

Yep, it's solid all right. There was no way to keep the piece straight if I left it attached, even with some severe clamping. It came off easily - there are (6) screws in the inside of the cabinet going up into the solid piece, and some very light glue. Will need to sand and get the edges straight/flat/perpendicular to the top to get it perfect - but going to be patient and give it a shot. Plan was to sand the top anyway from wear and fade. Thanks for the encouragement.
 
If you still have the pieces I think it can be done properly with good results. I would suggest starting a new thread of your own since we have gone off topic here and of no help to the OP.

I was wondering if you have original cabinets or actually had some cabinets made? From looking at ePay I find very little currently listed or in the sold listings other than a complete pairs of speakers. If you have original cabinets I would look for the original components. If custom cabinets, then you will be basically building custom speakers even if you put original components in them. From my experience there is basically no resale value for most custom built speakers. If you are simply wanting to experiment and have some fun hoping for good results, it may prove to be difficult to accomplish. The 8 inch Advent woofers are pretty common. These were also used by Dahlquist (my Dahlquist DQ-12 has the standard Advent woofer). Advent used the 8 inch drivers in the Heritage, Prodigy, Prodigy II, Prodigy Tower, and Graduate. My assuption is these are all the same driver.

The Heritage is a great sounding speaker.

The Heritage is considered a 2.5 way speaker, the bottom woofer crosses over at a different frequency than the top woofer. I have a schematic of the crossover if you need it.

I enhanced mine with additional sound insulation, metallized polypropylene capacitors, and upgraded inductors. Its one of my favorite speakers.

ChaddarHeadG - if you start a thread on the wood splitting, I'll share what I did with my Advent Legacies, and discuss options as I have a related problem with a set of Laureates.
