rec required: marantz 2270

Hi,

i'm thinking of getting a marantz 2270 from e-bay

i own a 2220B which i'm happy with butter does anyone know if the 2270 is a significantly better model than the 2220B in terms of sound quality (i know it has more power).



or should i hold out for a 2275B

speakers paradigm 11se - 90db 6ohm (35Hz - 20KHz)

Hello Zobsky, welcome to the board! As it happens, I (and others here, I'm sure) have both the 2270 and the 2220b. When it comes to any real sound difference, I don't detect much, if any, except, as you said, the 2270 is more powerful. Technically, the 2270 has better specs than the 2220b and was the top of the line receiver in the early 70's, excepting the Model 19.

I think the 2275 has better specs than either the 2220b or the 2270. Ben Blish's web site will tell you for sure. Of course, it'll also has a bigger price tag, too.

Yep, Jay's right on.

The 2275 is one of the better vintage Marantz receivers. Has a few more controls than the 2270. Plus improved electronics over the 2270. The 2275 was simply the next generation to the 2270.

Both are good though, so just depends on the budget, and what you can find. I have some of both, others may have also.

Keep the 2220B if you can. It's a nice entry level Marantz.

Hi again, ...and thanks for the welcome, thatch_ear introduced me to the site and it seems to be a whole load of fun

okay, guys you convinced me, .. i guess i'll be looking for a 2275B or something in the future, rather than spend on the 2270 now.

and no, i will probably never sell the 2220B, have had it for the past 4 years (right through college), kicks recievers costing 3- 4 times what i paid for it.

btw, cosmetic restoration project in the near future, hopefully won't be too bad, any opinions, comments on the 170dc??

Hi Zob...

To add my two cents worth if you haven't done anything yet, I have both the 2270 and 2275. They both sound great to my untrained ears, but I believe I can detect a little more depth of sound and bass from the 2275 than the 2270 from the same speakers / CD player / music choices. To me any differences are marginal though. I plan on keeping both!

thanks for the info, ..exactly what i needed to know,...


unfortunately the auction on e-bay which i was interested in (partly because the seller was based in the dfw area, ..hence no shipping ) has since ended and i instead invested in the 170dc amp i mentioned a few posts ago (.. still have to see how that gamble pays off, more info forthcoming).

will keep your info in mind, for when (if) i decide to buy another vintage marantz reciever
