I got one ! I just made my coffee with it right now ! Seems to be working just fine . Better send it in just the same tho . I got it last year as a Christmas gift , used it daily .

Pretty much true of every French Press ever made. You're not supposed to be an imbecile and still be allowed near hot water. It's SUPPOSED to come out, so you can wash it.
But then again, we're talking about Starbucks customers here, not people with any common sense.
 
The implication was simplicity over complexity, but the point is even simplicity isn't without fault and recall.

That doesn't even consider the ramifications of recalls or safety of water heating methods for French press, tea kettle, etc.
 
I never understood the attraction of the Keurig, with its gigantic waste of packaging for one-cup's-worth of ground coffee. My coffee cup is too big for one of those little portions anyway.

Not so. None of the french presses I own or have owned would suffer this fate. I believe the issue with that particular bodum model is that when you pick it up by the handle, as one normally would, the bottom can pop off allowing the glass carafe bottom to be exposed or to slide through crashing to the counter, who knows.

I like the convenience of only having to make one cup . I only have one cup a day but I have one everyday . And it tastes a lot better than the drip coffee maker I use to have . There is a filter you can buy that allows you to use loose grounds and you don't have to buy the k-cups . So you can still use your coffee grinder and whole beans . I like it and I think I'm going to stick with it .

If the Starbucks unit doesn't have a continuation of the metal frame across the bottom it's a pretty crappy design. All of mine do but you can still easily drop the carafe out of the top of the frame. Did that once but I didn't cry for someone to protect me from doing it again. I didn't try to sue Bodum, either.

Sad to see that they're now a Portuguese company after having been Danish and then Swiss.

+1 to that. The convenience is well worth it. My favorite for years has been the Newman's Own Bold, local Sams Club sells the 80 pack for as low as $23 sometimes.

For those who are new to it, keep a bobby pin handy and use it on the upper hole every once in while to keep it from clogging. Vinegar ran through every 6 months. .
 
I hear a lot about clogs in the upper hole but we've never cleaned ours and never had issues.

We also have an old B100 rather than one of the new ones that seem quite prone to failure of pumps (not pumping water at all - not clogged anything) or heaters - I've seen a fair amount thrown out from those issues.

I agree it makes a decent cup of Joe very conveniently. But when I feel like putting a bit more effort in I use something else for a better cup.

The K-cups probably keep the ground coffee more fresh, and that's important for good taste, if one doesn't grind fresh beans before brewing.

Just on my way to the kitchen to drop in a K-cup and push the button.
 
Also, our tap water here is pretty hard so I usually make coffee using roughly half carbon-filtered tap water and half distilled water. Seems to work pretty good.
