Recap KG4 x-overs or Crites...?

I didn't put in new poly switches when I recapped my KG4's. I'll have to look into getting a pair. I saw on a Polk forum where they were talking about the polyswitches is that they do have some resistance, so a small resistor was recommended instead of a jumper. I think the number was a 1/2 ohm resistor, if you were going to remove it. Not sure if that matches up with the resistance of the ones in the Klipsch.

In gonna go without the poly...and maybe test with/without a resistor in the circuit.

I used to have a pair of KG4s, recapped with Sonicaps then Solen FastCaps, they sounded better to me than Sonicaps and are cheaper. Took the poly switches out eventually.

There shouldn't be a problem if a parallel a 22 and 10uF cap in the woofer section...?
Found some Mundorf's on sale, but not a 33uF.

As long as you have the space available it will be fine.

Looking at this schematic, is it important that the tweeter caps come before and after where the inductor is bridged?

I think that it is important to keep the inductor between the caps as shown. Otherwise, you are changing the design of the crossover.

Why is it the KG4.2 schematic clearly shows resistors on both high and low pass networks...
And mine have none...? Nor do any other pics of the crossovers themselves that I've seen?

The 4.2 is a different speaker than the 4

Damn...
I already ordered the caps for mine, using the KG 4.2 values. No resistors...

Mine only have the 3.0uF on the tweeter section, inductor, I don't know the value of mine, but there is an obvious difference between the 4 and 4.2.
I ordered 3.3 and 2.2uF for my tweets, following the 4.2 design.
I guess I just drop in the 33 electro and 3.3 poly and call it a day.

@Moray...when you said to upgrade to the newer design, I thought you were referring to the KG4.2 schematic. :S

@cdfac...do you know the value of your tweet inductor? I'd have to think yours is different from mine, seeing as my network doesn't use the 8uF.
So now I have to decide if I want to keep my old design or by a pair of .5mH inductors and a pair of 8uF caps. Ugh!
However, your newer 4's could be using a newer tweeter than mine.

New caps arrived today!

Gonna wire them on my old clock radio and run them a couple of days for break in.

About the Auricap...are the long leads needed for proper spec, or should I trim them to my needs...?
Thanks

I don't think you ever want long leads, to prone to picking up noise. I know in circuit boards the shorter the path the better. Hard to say where the manufacturer connects to the cap to check the specs. I doubt the few inches of wire +/- makes much change to the specs.

I was pretty much thinking the same...
Strange, these caps with the twin leads out each side, the Auricaps.
I was curious , seeing as the ends were already tinned and the pairs twisted.
I imagine the inductors on the crossovers could be kinda "noisy"...

Ran these for about 30 hrs on the bench and installed them this afternoon.
Immediately notice the top end is definitely more detailed and maybe a tad brighter...but not harsh...?
Hoping they'll soften a bit over time...
I need to give them a good listen tomorrow.
