Recap question

Hello all,

I am trying to decide whether or not to recap my Pioneer SX 750 or 780 at the moment. It's unlikely i will be able to do both for a while, and my 780 needs new output modules anyway:thumbsdn:. Which would y'all recommend would get better results in the end? I will likely use the best sounding one as my current main one and keep the other as a spare. Also, how difficult is it to get to the back of the power amp board and protection boards for a recap; I noticed they were mounted but they have a buttload of wires coming from them, so idk :smoke:

As MTF and Echowars would say " Electrolytic caps are the only ticking time bombs
in vintage gear". So, recapping is essential for the continued health of your gear. With the introduction of audio grade caps sonic nirvana is that much closer. If you are considering any work on your stuff this is what I would do first, most bang for the buck also. Wishing you good hearing and long life.
 
As a personal choice I would go with the 750.

When you do, I have a GREAT replacement cap list (sx-750) ready in a spreadsheet to start from, to visually verify their presence - then I'll have to modify it to compensate for out of stock caps. It contains general purpose upw's, low leakage ukl's and stacked film caps where possible.

It may be posted here somewhere, too. That's usually the end result of one of my spreadsheet sessions....
 
being that both output packs went out on my 780, i might do the 750 first since it works lol :D Hey could you send me that spreadsheet, that would make it much easier lol :music:
 
BUT like I said, a bunch are out of stock, and I will have to specify alternatives, so using this list to order would be a waste of time right now, PLUS mouser won't be shipping until next Monday at the earliest anyway. Between now and then I will update this with an all new post.

Man, this may be enough to make me do my 750 too.
I noticed some "shrink" on some caps when I got it.
Can't ask for much more than a ready made BOM.

$16.57 for 67 caps.

I hope you noticed that while the mouser BOM computed the prices for all, TWENTY of the 67 are out of stock and on back order that extends between 1 week and several months. By the weekend's end I will have come up with alternate numbers that are in stock in great enough quantity that they should continue to be available for more than a few days. That will be a whole new list posted - it's easier...

I would hate to hear that you already placed the order, although the 47 will probably be represented in the new 67, BUT the twenty may be charged to you and will sit around in backorder, while the new 20 that are in stock will nail you with a second shipping charge.

I actually havent ordered them yet, I did see the out of stock ones. Gave me an idea of what I would be looking at though. I won't be able to order them until at least next week when I get paid anyhow :D
 
I saw there were some polyester film caps in that list, was that intentional, and if so, which caps do they replace?
 
NOW, that's a question YOU can answer. I'm not going to do ALL the work - the intention is to TEACH, not FEED.

The only thing is, I acknowledge that there is a lot of knowledge scattered throughout a huge number of my posts. And the search function leaves a lot to be desired - but you can use a google advanced targeted search on audiokarma.org.

BUT that STILL means you should try to answer the question yourself FIRST.

TRUE, but do they have your money during the next 3 months until the items come off back order. Plus can you wait for the parts, I don't (I find replacements or go elsewhere) thus cannot answer the $$ question.

Old post..But the answer is no.Once BO parts are ready to ship they will then charge your CC.
 
I just picked up an SX-750 and plan to tackle recapping it in the coming weeks. The information provided on this forum has been super helpful. I was wondering why the ACH-057 electrolytic capacitors are not included on the BOM. Since they are also electrolytic, I was figuring they should be replaced, as well. This may expose me as a neophyte here, but any information or guidance would be much appreciated.
