I am almost done with the P800 board with new relay and caps. I did make one mistake. I forgot to order a 470uf 16v cap. I did however order 2,10 and 100 of all caps in unit based on the fact that I have (2) 2270's to restore, therefore I do have one 470uf 63v left over.

Can I use the 470uf 63v in lieu of the 470uf 16v?????

Wow. You mean that all of these years I've heard in my travels that, with an electrolytic, you were okay as long as it mechanically fit and you did not exceed WVDC -- but there's actually an upper limit to it?

I had always thought that forming was only an issue for aged electrolytics. Learn something new every day.

Is there a rule of thumb for how far above the original WVDC specification you should not stray above?

I read about that alot too. But, I was never entirely convinced when I looked at the datasheet and it's telling me a somewhat different story. So when I order, I don't try to go any higher nor too much if I don't have to. You can still go as high as you want on the voltage rating and not get injured nor any damages but it's not feasible to do so. I don't care too much to get the exact physical size to match up with the original holes as long as it will fit with minor bending and work. I just get creative with the bending (carefully) and it looks as good as if it was original.

When i messure a cap with my Fluke 110 it takes only longer with big caps.

Like 10.000 uf takes a while but below that no problem so putting in higher voltage is no problem whatsoever. :smoke:
