Reccomend eBay receiver for $175 max

Looking for a sleeper that is affordable and good sounding. Sansui tend to go for high dollars, Pioneer is really popular but I have an SX3600 and going to sell it. I do like Onkyo though. Realistic and MCS are also on my short list.
 
Some of the lower to mid range Yamaha models go for less on ebay -
CR-820 - doesn't have the power meters but is a decent looking unit.

Does it need to be a receiver? - could it be an integrated? Just a thought

That 4000 that was mentioned was within your price and it looks like it is in good condition with many questions answered. Tuner aligned. The tuner is probably the most problematic section of any receiver. Some bulbs out shouldn't be a big deal. It's a solid receiver that has a well balanced bass, mid, and treble. A lot of receivers sound good in the upper range but lack the bass. It's a solid recommendation.

From there you can look at others with more questions than you have answers.

The Realistic 860 if it's like some of the later Realistics with the Expander may be of questionable quality. The Expander is a gimmick and probably the worst of their processed sound offerings.

Besides, the receiver, consider the seller feedback, description and packing expertise.

If you are looking at off brand receivers, a Realistic STA-90 is a good value. But make sure the seller gives a good description. Also ask if the pointer turns red when in stereo mode. Meters work, etc.

Don't settle for something less just because it is cheap.
 
It appear, from the few links that you've posted, that you are drawn to a design that has a few more LED style lights. Maybe you'd like this pioneer?

SA-5800

It's only 25 WPC - but has the classic pioneer silver and also the fluoroscan style display for power. (youtube has videos for demo)

Then you could save a little more and get the tuner like TX-6800 and have a nice set.
 
The Pioneer SX-3700, 3800 are nice choices. I have the above Pioneer amp and tuner in my basement, but haven't listened to them in a long time, so I don't have much to say about them. I HAD an Onkyo A-7 and T-4 on here in the classifieds, but they are probably not listed anymore. Not going to sell them off individually anyway. That is a nice setup too if you can find it. Sounds like you are more looking for an amp than a receiver.
