Receiver Lamps Stay On

I have a Kenwood KR-9600 receiver. It woris great, but recently, when i switch the system off, the stereo shuts down but the lamps stay on. I've left it for a couple hours and the lights were still on when I returned.

Any thoughts on what might cause this?

Can you post the schematic? Do the lights change at all when you switch it on and off? Generally the power switch will kill the line supply to the transformer and thus everything beyond the power input circuitry. I'm assuming if you turn it of while its playing music, the cuts out nearly instantly. Correct?
 
lamps should definitely switch off with amp .
for fun try switching off at wall and see if lamps stay on .
then try reversing mains plug if possible .
some nice pictures of inside might help

If the lights stay on when you power the nit off from the wall, you have solved the energy crisis. Free electricity for all.
 
ok i figured it out ..there is a capacitor right across the power switch c1 .01uf spark killer .it is now a resistor and will be getting hot with switch off . cut it out of circuit leaving enough lead to solder back in case i am wrong . it could also be the power switch sticking on a little bit .

do the bulbs dim at all when you turn it off?

If I switch it off at the wall it does immediately turn off.

The lights aren't affected at all and the music cuts off immediately when I flip the switch to 'off'.

Alas, I'm only capable of taking potato-quality pictures with my phone right now.
 
I think your power switch is in the process of going south. Common occurrence in the KR-9600.

Luckily the switch has a pair of unused contacts. The fix is to remove the switch body from the toggle assembly, rotate the switch body 180 degrees so that you you can use the unused side of the switch, and unsolder the wires from each end terminal and resolder to the unused end terminals. The wires attached to the middle terminals stay put. Also, absolutely replace the safety capacitor.

Klatoo.. nickto berratta! Yeah sounds like the switch or a cap opened on the lighting circuit. acts like a battery if reversed.. :D led's might have sparked up also? btw my lights are on all the time. could be you activated standyby even you don't have it? :D

i did mention the switch earlier . plus the spark killer cap . i would cut the cap out first as it needs a new one anyway . then if all seems good just change the cap .
