Receiver or Speakers??

I have as little used system in my storage room consisting of a Sony 7055 and A/D/S L520 speakers. When I do use it I'm continually impressed with the sound quality, especially the soundstage. I was toying with the idea of switching out the A/D/S L520's with my Boston Acoustics A70's to give the A/D/S more use. The Bostons are being driven by a Carver 6200. I'm not physically able to switch anything out right now so I'm looking for opinions for when I can. Are the L520's superior to the A70's or is it the Sony that gives that nice soundstaging and detailed sound to the L520's? I recognize that it's my ears that will be the determining factor but for now I'd like other ears to give me other perspectives.

Your just gonna have to try and see theory only works in thought not in application. I would think the ADS are better but there just may be some synergy going on aswell..........trial is sadly most help anyone can give with any certainty.

No doubt there is some synergy going on, maybe quite a bit. I have read that the early Sonys create an excellent soundstage and the Carvers are no slouch either. So let me simplify the question. Are the A/D/S L520 perceived to be superior to the BA A70 by those who have listened to both?

I have a Sony 6055 and it is a superior sounding unit. Synergy is an important issue, though. My 6055 is a warm sounding unit and excels with speakers that are brighter. If I mate it to a speaker with a warm personality, it can sound a bit bloated.

We are talking about subtle differences here and good speakers will all have their own character and will respond differently to room conditions. I think you really just have to swap them out and see what works best for you.
